Sony dropping some lenses?

The Sony web site no longer lists the (APS-C) E 16-50mm PZ; the E 55-210mm nor the earlier E 16-55mm. These were popular bundled kit lenses for the A6XXX cameras. Admittedly, they were never lenses to get excited about although I like my 16-50mm. They are still readily available through dealers, but I wonder why Sony dropped them from the web site.

Could it be that they are about to announce some new lenses to go with a new A6700 ?

I think Sony new kit lens is the 18-135mm and it's a awesome little lens, Priced right @ $495

There will always be new lenses. There must be replacements coming for those lenses.

I find and have found kit lenses great! On the other hand I have found many photographers lacking!

This is classic behavior for Sony. If a product is not earning its way, they drop it and discontinue all support immediately. I will never buy Sony anything again.

I have to say that is a little harsh. I have been abandoned by Sony as well - on minidisc players and on e-readers. But, it quickly became clear that Sony was not going to be a major player in the e-reader market, and that ROM memory in the form of SD Cards etc. was going to blow away minidiscs. Are you expecting Sony to continue to market a product for which there are no significant sales and no prospect of them improving?

Because of my experiences I thought long and hard about ever going back to Sony to buy a camera. But, studying their history in photography made me conclude that Sony is very much into it for the long haul. They poured money into every aspect in their efforts to become competitive. Now, they are making huge penetrations into the professional markets, and are forcing Nikon and Canon to dance to their tune. This is good for us, the consumer.

I think it very unlikely that Sony would walk away from their massive investment - and success - in the photographic market. And indeed, I think a lot of the hatred in some circles against Sony is because of their leadership in professional level mirrorless cameras, which is clearly a threat to Canon and Nikon. People heavily invested, both emotionally and financially in those companies fear Sony's game changing success.

Now that the Nikon lens adapter is available Sony will reverse engineer it to fit Sony cameras. That will finally give Sony users access to great glass.

Don't get excited, just kidding.

Sony already has some great glass and don't need a adapter.

This guy drops a Canon, hits it with a truck and sets it on fire

Oh, you mean discontinued? In the words of the late Saturday Night Live comedienne Gilda Radner's character, Emily Litella, "Nevermind!"
