Welcome to UHH, yes I too also at the age of 65 and now retiring from my job of 34 years, began to again desire to learn more about "Digital Photography", since I too came from the older Film days of Photography, this was a challenge indeed, but slowly I am learning and really enjoying what I have learned. Now the thing that is slowing me down is the Photo-Editing Post processing the images I create. I tend to be color deficient in Reds, Greens and Browns, so that makes me quite hesitant about "Photo-Editing".

Only you can decide that.
I did my own B&W film processing for about ten years, sent out color.
I really like the ability with digital to view the results of capturing an image to see if it turned out the way I wanted it to, so I can fix it if need be. With film you had to wait until it was processed to find out. This was nasty if you could not easily go back to get more pictures. With digital, you can look at them on the monitor at home (or the hotel). Of course there is the digital darkroom, where you can adjust color balance, brightness, and other parameters. This is much simpler to work with than a wet darkroom.
It WAS hard to finally get rid of my darkroom equipment......
Some people still do both.

Welcome to UHH. Had a Canon AV-1 sold it , still have Canon AE-1 and AE-1 Program. Using the AE-1 as I am writing this reply. Get out there and use those cameras like I did this morning at a car show. Also welcome to the forget world of film camera.

I still use two AE1P Canons. Color and b&w. Mike's camera in Boulder does a good job with film processing. DO NOT GO TO A LOCAL PHARMACY for processing. Film on line. Prices excellent if you shop. Have fun.
