Sony E 18-105 F4 G vs Sony E 18-135

I am thinking of trading my beloved Sony E 18-105 F4.0 G OSS for the Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS - not so much for the extra reach, but for the 25% reduction in weight and bulk. The 16-105 and A6000 is my favorite travel combo, but the lens is a little bulky and heavy for travel. I use my A7Rii and FF lenses when I am at home. I shoot landscapes / urban / transitional light mostly.

Anybody here have experience of both lenses? Would I be giving up much in IQ by going to the 18-135? I really do like the constant F4 on the 18-105.

I made the same decision that you did. Life is often a trade off. You give up constant f4 for lighter weight and bulk and a little more reach.

I have the Sony 18-135 after selling my Zeiss 16-70. I too miss the constant f4. The main reason I sold the 16-70 was for the almost double the reach and the generally positive reviews. I have not owned the much larger 18-105. The 18-135 is a sharp lightweight lens. I do find it to be overly contrastsy ( some people find that to be desirable ). It tends to make all shadows black. In my a6300 menu I set the contrast to minus 2. That change helps considerably. Again this is my own personal preference. The 18-135 is a generally good small light all around travel/everyday lens in good light. Since you have the FF lens at home if needed , the 18-135 may be a good option.

I like the 18-105 so much I use it on my a7III and put up with the reduced FOV. I know there is a FF lens I could upgrade to, but not worth it to me. This lens is my main travel lens. My other fav is a 28mm, and I hardly use the 70-300 anymore.

Never had the 18-105 but was gifted the 18-135 last spring. Amazed by the quality of the image from a non-G lens. Stayed on the camera 90% of the time on a cruise with shore excursions. Night shots handheld were also very good. Very happy with the results.

Top of the Morn' Repleo, I just purchased the 18-135 lens primarily for travel use, now keep, it on my A6500....and yes its a great all around light travel lens, light, compact good focal range. Very good quality, excellent IQ for the lens it is, its cost. Would have liked a constant aperture but there are some trade-offs. So far I'm happy with it, especially when travelling. A few examples from last week using this lens that were previously posted. Cheers

I have a sony A-mount EF-s 18-135mm, I'm about to put up for sale.
Lens came with a camera I purchased for Grand daughter. Part of a package deal.
She didn't like it as was to short a focal length according to her. Grandma got her what she wanted.
I used it for maybe only 100 clicks. It is like new, no scratches, no dust, both end caps
and a B+W filter. F-pro MRC Digital UV-Hase. Going up for sale because, I switched to
FF mirrorless system.
I will sell for $200.00 with free shipping
Have a complete line of lenses for the A mount A77 which I'm also putting up for sale
as soon as I get them all listed

Thanks for the input guys. Great pictures Blaster34. Very encouraging.
Thanks for the offer GeneS, but I would need an adapter for an A-mount lens which would defeat my main purpose which is to lighter and more compact.
