This little guy was just trying for one more sip when a hostile appeared. Hummers can be greedy aggressive little things. Back light from the setting sun and front fill from a flash on high speed sync. so the result looks like bright sunlight without the shadows.
80D, 100-400L mk II @ 400, 1/1600 @ f/8.0, ISO 1000 hand held at 8-10 feet with high speed sync flash

My husband says it's a good thing these little sprites are bigger. We'd all be in danger. Lovely shot, Jerry, and I see he's on a constant lookout.

I have seen them go after doves that got too close. One poster says he has seen them go after an eagle - which more or less just ignored the hummer.

Yes, at times. Other times I can see several all peacefully feeding and others just perching waiting their turn.
