This little guy was just trying for one more sip when a hostile appeared. Hummers can be greedy aggressive little things. Back light from the setting sun and front fill from a flash on high speed sync. so the result looks like bright sunlight without the shadows. Yes the wings were flapping - just a blur to my eyes.
80D, 100-400L mk II @ 400, 1/1600 @ f/8.0, ISO 1000 hand held at 8-10 feet with high speed sync flash

Great shot! The right place at the right time. And I am sure I am not the only envious photographer.

And, yes, they are fearless. They have been known to challenge bald eagles although the eagles treat them more like mosquitoes.

Thank you, I just walked out with the camera and gear, put a lawn chair about 7 feet from the feeder (but on the level of the pool deck-the yard is terraced 2 feet higher) and waited. Even some of the doves, finches and others came back to feed around the yard while I sat an took shots of the hummers.

I will do you one better. Back in June both I and my daughter observed a male Monarch butterfly that had stacked out some flowers as his territory make runs at sparrows and finches. My daughter even asked me if it was her imagination what she was seeing.

Thanks
I am pretty sure this is a female Anna's Hummingbird. They are found from NW Mexico through the SW United States along the coast to extreme Southern Alaska.

Very nice. They kind of like the Chihuahua of the avian world.
