Has anyone here started to invest in the Mirrorless cameras or plan too? What are your thoughts about these camera's vs the DSLR's?

I too have the Oly E-M5. Got it to carry in my briefcase when my D7000 is too much to haul around. Don't be fooled into thinking, however, that "mirror less" means "simple." There's a bigger learning curve for my Oly than I ever experienced with my Nikon. But, there's also a lot of on-line forum support.

NEX5. So far I am satisfied with "kit" lens - seems better than famous brand "kit" lens. Complaint of no len's being mitigated now. Factories damaged due to weather. Features to many to list so go to Sony. Lens adapters available for many cameras. EVF available. Yes it has shortcomings, but is much smaller than a D-SLR and much lighter but with comparable image quality. BTW, I have had Nikon DSLR, switched to Canon. Use D-SLR for important work (looks more professional) the Sony for most other work.

Yes, I have had the Olympus EP-2 for 2 years now and recently bought the EP-3. I would never go back to a dslr. They are small I can carry both camera and 4 lens in the same space I used to carry my dslr.

I am also happy with the IQ of the cameras. I suggest you might check out the DP Review Micro Four Thirds Forums. There you can ask questions and see samples from different models and lens. They also have a nice line up of lens available.

I have a Nikon D800 and a D300 with 8 lenses; a Lumix system with 6 lenses; and a Fuji X10 and X100. I really like my Nikons for many situations, but when it comes to low light, I go mirror-less every time. They are fabulous for low-light hand-held interior shots. I frequently get acceptably sharp photos hand-held at 1/10th sec exposure with multiple lenses to about 80mm. With my Nikon, can't make it happen, way too soft.
IMHO, mirror slap ruins many low-light shots. I use mirror-less indoors.

Yes! I am sold on the mirrorless 4/3 system. I love my Panasonic and have invested in 3 additional lenses for it and am drooling over the new 12-35mm, f2.8 lens. The biggest strike against 4/3 cameras, as Grizzly alluded to, is the public perception that the bigger and more unwieldly your camera equipment, the better the photographer you must be. Not so!

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMCG3..the 5 is now out...looks great. It has a viewfinder, shoots jpeg and raw. I paired it with the 14-140 zoom IS lens and that's what I take for travel...one camera, one lens plus my Caqnon S100 P&S...small, lighter weight andn great pics.

I own two, a Sony NEX-5 and NEX-7 that I use as my vacation cameras. I intend to sell the NEX-5 soon since I only use the NEX-7 if you're interested. (Send me a PM)

I loved the NEX-5 and am even happier with the NEX-7.

I also own Canon (10D converted to infra-red, 5D, 5 MII and 7D). That being said, the NEX-7 is not equal to my Canons but close enough.

I got the Sony NEX-5 because during a vacation it was a burden to carry a full size DSLR and a couple of lenses. I just did not enjoy it and wanted something lighter and smaller but with the features of my DSLRs.

The Sony NEX-5 pretty much fit the bill. I bought the NEX-7 to replace the NEX-5 mainly because of the view finder.

I was looking forward to Canon's mirrorless introduction but am extremely disappointed by its features especially the reported slow auto-focus speed.

When it became necessary to downsize (My kit consisted of a Leica M + 4 lenses and a Nikon D90 with 6 lenses) I opted, after trying many, to go with an Oly EP3, the 14-42 kit lens;- quickly added a marvellous 12mm-f2.0 Zuiko, and am now planning on the EM5 with the kit (both "dust-proof and splash-proof) 55zoom, will add a piece of "long" glass, and I'm moving around with the same capabilities- (and pic quality, in my opinion, except the Leica M, which is/was unequalled but film, and I'm not ready yet for the price of the M9)..as I was with the Leica and Nikons at 1/4 the weight!! This is a most informative thread! I especially appreciate those of you who are able to compare the big DSLRs with Micro 4/3's based on your personal experience! I won't switch from m4/3, but I do often wonder how it stacks up picture quality-wise. My Panasonic G10 as served me so well, I love it, but have worn it into the ground and am eagerly awaiting the rumored release of the Panasonic GH3. If it doesn't come out soon though, I might look closely at the Oly EM5. If you get the EM5 soon, Robert, please share your opinions!!
