Well , I've been reading the posts on here on a daily basis and have found this site very informative. The more I read the more I wonder , I presently have a Nikon D5100 ,which I'm pretty happy with . I have several Nikon lenses and I primarily show car shows , landscapes and family stuff. And I do use the articulating screen a lot. I post a lot of pictures to different car forums & share them with a lot of friends.
But the question I guess is, I've thought about a new camera . Would a move to a Nikon D5600 be a worthwhile investment ?
Or should I consider the 7500 ? Or just keep what I have ?
Appreciate your thoughts . Thank you

My thoughts keep and enjoy what you have. Seems to be working well for you.Technology keeps moving so the 5600 ou are considering will no doubt be replaced with a different model. Avoid GAS> Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

I upgraded from a D5200 to a D7500. I used the articulating screen quite a bit and the screen on the D7500 while not having the flexibility of the D5200's screen, has the positions that I most used: It tilts up for those low-level shots and it tilts down for those overhead shots. I find the D7500 to be far more solidly built than the D5200 and it's smoother.

However, the big thing for me is the big deep buffer and the 8FPS shooting rate which I have put to good use at swim competitions. I do not know if that feature is important to you. The metering system and sensor of the D7500 is the same as in the D500 and it does much better in lowlight compared to the D5200. That might be of importance for your car show pictures. It also has wireless connectivity to your smartphone whereby you can upload images to the smartphone as you take them and send them up to the cloud.

The D7500 will use all the lenses you currently have for your D5100.

I slapped a 128GB SD card in mine and I can shoot all year on the same card. I do back it up after every outing.

Going to the D5600 will get you the touchscreen and some connectivity but not at WiFi speed that the D7500 has. It's a difficult choice; what you have now works well, a D5600 has a few incremental enhancements and it's not expensive, compared to a D7500. But the D7500 is special and I enjoy mine very much. I did not get rid of my D5200, but I don't use it now.

If you are a casual user, and you sound like you are, then the D7500 would be a perfect upgrade. For me, I cannot have a "production" camera without dual memory card slots, but excluding that, there is a lot to like for a Dx user with the D7500.

I too was considering going from my D5100 to the D5600, but after handling the D5600, it didn't seem enough of an upgrade. I went to the D750, but still often use the D5100.

Consider a second hand D500, rather than a new D7500.

What?? Do you mean there are people who use,"production" cameras without dual memory slots????? Something has to be done about "those" people.

Keep what you have.

Gear buying doesn't satisfy.

I think people get bored with what they have and then try and justify buying something else to combat that lack of satisfaction, then when that wears off...it starts again.

I went from a d500 to a d7200 and never looked back. I can use buttons to change settings , I have two card slots ( very convenient ) and 24 mega pixels. I'd go with a d500 over the 7500. I still have the d500 but never use it any more.

If you shoot manuel the 2 wheels on the D7xxx sereies are a great advantage. If your shooting AUTO I don't see an advantage in the upgrade.

Why would you go from a D500 to a D7200 and then state that you would go to a D500 over the D7500 (coming from a D500?) and then state that you still have the D500?

As I have read here several times, you know what you have, what do you expect to get from the upgrade that you don't have now. GAS is sooooo easy to pick up when reading the posts here but before spending the money, know what features/functions you will get that you don't already have!
