I am using an epson 1400 printer and get acceptable results on
gloss paper or satin paper. However, I would prefer images on matt paper. I am using soft proofing and CS5. My images on Matt paper are muddy or dull. Some images I have seen on Matt have a "richer" look. FI have used Redriver paper and Epson paper with the suggested profiles but can't get what I want.
Any help appreciated.
Based on your expectations, I think you will be disappointed using matte paper. The best you can do is select "matte paper" and "high quality" on your printer-driver program. It's just the nature of the matte finish to dull everything.
Long ago, we used to print of glossy and apply a matte lacquer spray finish, but the results were the same. Oh, well...
Have you tried doing a mat textured layer on top & lowering the optacy - just a thought.
Is your monitor calibrated and is the paper you are using profiled for your printer?
One problem I run into with my customers and printing is that they're using outdated drivers. Have you gone to Epson to download and install the latest print driver? Sometimes, they update them and don't tell you. And they can sometimes fix a multitude of problems. And as jeep daddy suggested, go to the paper manufacturers website and see if they have a profile that matches your paper.
