I take absolutely no credit for the image as posted. Post processing success goes to (alphabetically) to Hoggers Beowulf, Kubota King and SoHillGuy.
The actual photo is a scanned Ectachrome slide. Camera an Argus C-3. Photographer a 16 year old who's skills were more in tune with taking pictures of girls on the beach. Anyway, the location is Fremont Drag Strip circa 1960, the car is, I believe, Tommy Ivo's first 4 engine dragster. If you look closely at the bottom of the picture you will see two steel cables attached to posts made out old telephone polls. That is the safety barrier. Never saw it stop a car that wanted to leave the strip. If you look across the strip to the left of the stands you, if you have a good imagination, can see spectator's cars right up against the safety barrier. Probably lost a few of them occasionally but that was just part of the fun.
Tommy Ivo ?

Loc: NE Washington state
Tommy Ivo for sure, he was well known for his multi-engine dragsters!!
In 1962 Tommy Ivo and his car were at a Corpus Christi, Texas dragstrip, he made 1 run, his car tore up the asphalt, so he was told he couldn't race his car there again that day, the track had to be repaired. Back then the pits were in an open field and spectators were allowed to look at the cars up
close and personal, his car was quite a sight, I will never understand why he chose Buick engines, it was a monster.
