I don't think Canon has such system! They are however have their top glass wear the letter L, and they are usually priced accordingly. Canon's Cine lenses are their most expensive lenses (they are all L lenses as well)!

Entry level lenses have a Chrome/Silver ring around them. Mid-grade lenses have a dotted Gold ring around them. Top line lenses have a red ring around them.

The letter designations must have meaning or hierarchy in the product lineup.

The ‘letter designation ‘ is indicated for camera bodies, not the lens as far as I know. Except for the ‘L’ for top tier.

Lens prefix letter designations on Canon designate the type of camera mount with which they are compatible. Past that, the lens mm and minimum f-stop range. The L indicates what Canon deems the top tier optically within the major mounting system, FTD or EF, etc. Any letters after that are abbreviations for the function or capability of that lens. I.E. Image Stabilization, Type of focus motor, etc.

Look at what MT Shooter posted... that is the true caste system for Canon lens: silver, gold, green and red.

The Canon codes are less complex, than say, Nikon. Consider example = Canon EF 16-35mm F/2.8L III USM:

EF: Electronic Focus, as all Canon's lenses have been since 1987.
-S: Designed only for the smaller 1.6x sensor of the 20D, 30D and Rebel, example EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5 - 4.5 USM

L: Expensive

II / III: The second or third generation of a lens at the same focal length and maximum aperture

USM: Ultrasonic Autofocus Motor.

So, hope this tells you that the information on the lenses does not indicate least expensive to most expensive? Even among L lenses, the pricing isn't based on any naming convention, but on build components, complexity and optics.

This doesn't relate to a lens naming system, but it might be a useful way to
identify ownership of your lens or other photo equipment: simply affix one of those small self-adhesive return
address labels you get in the mail and render it waterproof with clear plastic tape.

I had to reword my search a few times, and found a great article on Canon lenses, with a 2 page listing of lenses. I believe I had to copy the text into word to save the info.
I'll go through my history, and hopefully I'll find the article again, and post the link.
Try starting with a "Canon lens identification" search.
I also read through at least 3 articles, before I found what I was looking for.

Though it would take a bit more experience, the f-stop relative to focal length might be a better indicator of expense hierarchy.
