This bird was hanging out in Dennis Port, MA. on Sunday, July 29, 2012. I have no idea what kind of bird it is. If anyone can identify it, I would appreciate it. I used my Canon T3 with a 55-250mm lens.

Thank You, A number of people that were present thought it was a Turkey Vulture. After looking at pictures on the internet, it isn't a Turkey Vulture. Another possibility is a red tailed hawk in its dark phase. Don't ask me what that means. The only bird I can identify is a sea gull.

I think it's a Hawk. But you should google images for Hawk and Eagle, as I am not so sure it is not some kind of Eagle. If you can narrow it to you part of the country and time of year. Size and color matter. Either way how lucky you were to be there for those photos! Veerraa Niiice!
Aloha,
Hoku

It looks like an immature Bald Eagle. The blotchy white on the underwing coverts, the heavy set bill and the gestault of the bird perched and flying suggest to me it is an Eagle.

It is too big for a hawk, it is a Golden eagle, looks too mature with too much black for a Bald Eagle.
Go to this URL and scroll down, great graphics of the difference between the two eagles from juvenile to adult.

I agree that it looks like a juvenile bald eagle. Here is a picture of one from Ellensburg, Wa. for comparison. Bee
