I just downloaded the new, $69 [missed the July cut off date for the $49 version, but then, I had no idea there was an ANY dollar version, as I've been using the free Google download for years]. Frankly I am hard pressed to see anything different about this "new and improved" version other than some cosmetic variations. Has anyone else tried the DXO NIK? Are you seeing something I'm not seeing??

One, anyone can accomplish what NIK does using just photoshop. NIK simply gives people the click a button method of processing. From what I read the only difference between what NIK, then Google offered and what DXO is selling is the price. From what I read, DXO has been very secretive about what's new and improved in their version.

Photoshop has a steep learning curve, is expensive and has capacities more appropriate for magazine covers than the type of photojournalism I do. I'll say the DXO improvement is a secret, because so far my hands on testing hasn't found it.

In my senior citizen, soon to be retired, world, ten bucks a month is not expensive. Just sayin’

If you're talking about Photoshop [back in the day you bought the software, as I did Lightroom] $10 a month for the subscription is one thing; how much for the training course in how to use it? And what's the cost of having my workflow come to a dead stop during that time?

Please: this is not a discussion of the relative merits of Photoshop vs NIK. It's whether DXO NIK is worth any more than Google NIK. and whether it's a one time ripoff or a subscription ripoff.

I use Silver Efex Pro once in a while. The left side panel is push button editing. If you look at the right side panel, which may need to be opened, there is a lot more going on. Local adjustments are even available via control points.

The changes appear to be bug fixes and compatibility improvements: https://nikcollection.dxo.com/release-notes/

This is from their website, and is supposed to be their new viveza interface. It isn't. The new one is identical to the old, down to the sliders. This is a complete misrepresentation.

I've been running the new 64 bit windows 10 since it was released; I never experienced any problems with free NIK.

Where did they say they revamped the entire software? DWU2 posted a link to their overview of changes. The email I received explained the updates - mostly just a few compatibility issues addressed (for now).

btw, when the updated version was first offered, there were at least six topics on UHH about it, along with the email, along with the information on the DxO website.

From the email:

"Expensive" is a relative term.

Point one - yes, you can do it all in PS. same with Topaz and many other applications. That said PS is mammoth - takes a long, long time to be able to do all that. Yes they give you a click version. 'll take that before i want to spend days digging through the PS abyss. Those that grew up when PS was the only show feel comfortable. There is reason that all these NIK like packages are being created - the education curve is too long and life is too short.

Point two - DXO did not just buy NIK to repackage and and charge. Their rep is much better and no software house is that dumb. Like any software that transfers, you fix the known problems and then look to adding function. You also get a service stream which for those that use a tool for serious work is priceless.
