Finally, after a messy shipping by USPS, it arrived yesterday. Exciting times ahead. ˜

Boris, I don't want to rain on your parade, since you just got it and are quite excited about it. This is a great lens. Probably the best ever from Nikon in this zoom range, save for the new 70-200 F2.8 FL. But they are known for failing silent wave motors, and Nikon hasn't had parts to repair that since 2013. An early symptom is a slight "squeal" from the motor while focusing, which eventually gets worse until it stops working.

If yours is in great condition, which it seems to be, you should get some good use out of it. I prefer this lens to the 70-200 F2.8 VR and the VR II.

I feel your excitement. I ordered a used Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR II described as in “excellent” condition from mpb yesterday and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive.

Thank you, sir. I read about the failing motor before I bought the lens. As there are around 12 manufactured versions of this lens over the past decades, I researched all I could to avoid any of the failing ones. Fingers crossed I succeeded.

An IPA is never wrong on a day like this.

That's a beauty. I got one from KEH. Mine was never sold before I bought it. It was NOS, so there isn't much wear on the motor.

That's a song often sung at Irish memorial services. I hope this is not a portent, at least not the bad news kind . . .

For those of us with more refined palates, who dislike "hoppy" and prefer to chew our beers (Porters, Stouts), this would be wrong on any day!

I have the 80-200 2.8 which is currently still sold and manufactured. I purchased it just as the first 70-200 vr was released. It works off the camera motor. My 80-200 does not have an internal motor. I think you are thinking about the afs model has the above stated problem.
