What is experience with on line or in store album making? Any suggestions? I tried search in that subject here and found nothing. Price isvceratinly an issue, but quality and service as well.
Apple books are fantastic. I have made 17 for various themes, trips and clubs etc. They are made to last and the images are accurate.
I used Adorama. It wasn't what I would call cheap, I think it was $150 for a 50 page or so book that pages that were 10x12 and leather bound. Came out really, really nice. I would definitely use them again.
I have made two with Adoramapix, and now working on a third. Recommend highly.

Do you assume they actually do the work themselves or do they use another service? Do I need to do all the post processing myself, or do they do final clean ups?
I've used Shutterfly for several books.
I have used Shutterfly on three separate occasions in the past year and the results have been excellent! I was very concerned about the accuracy of reproducing my images and I am extremely pleased with the outcome - color and exposure are spot on. Their is a learning curve for their interface, but it is not unlike many photo editing or graphics applications. If you have PP applications, process your images first and then upload them. HINT: Don't pay full price for any of their products - they continually send emails with discount offers. (Shhhhhh - don't tell them I told you this!) Have fun - it is really very rewarding to see the finished product.
I haven't seen them mentioned yet, but I have used Blurb for several books (vacation, wedding, birthday celebration, and others) and have been very happy with them. So were the recipients of these books.

I tried Snapfish just once. I'm more impressed with quality of Shutterfly and seems to have more selection as to design. Been ordering photo albums from Shutterfly ever since.
One thing to note on AdoramaPix, if you follow them on FaceBook or subscribe to their emails, they frequently have really good specials on their book prices.

They have some great products! We just had them do a 20 X 30 metal print of 60 plus people of my parents 70th. I have not personally seen it, but I have received several phone calls from family members in Florida where I had it shipped. It was ready to hang and nothing was needed. Their album work is very good and it's so easy to share.

Check here for some comparisons.
https://www.toptenreviews.com/services/multimedia/best-photo-books/I have been using Pickaboo for several years and have been very happy. One arrived just before Christmas with a crushed corner. They replaced it free of charge in two days.
I use Nations Photo Lab (nationsphotolab.com). Great quality, great prices, and a wide variety of products

I made a few Shutterfly books. While their online design process is a little cumbersome, the results are beautiful. I made photobooks for the kids with photos from our family vacations as they were growing up. They are definitely keepsake quality.
I use Blurb and I am happy.
