At the start of this day I had no idea that this would be fledge day for 2 of the chicks. In the previous post the chicks had become increasingly active. This started with the parents continuing to bring food and remove poop. The activity increased with 2 of the chicks up on the edge of the nest most of the time. The third check lagged behind really not getting up on the edge of the nest til later in the day.
From about 9 am on the parents behavior changed: As 2 of the chicks stayed perched on the nest edge they stopped bringing food and did not come up to the nest. They both flew around and landed about 6’ to 20’ of the nest in view of the chicks. There was much chirping between the chicks and parents. Since the parents were not coming to the nest no poop was removed. The parents were encouraging the chicks that it was time to leave.
