Sony RX10 iV or D7200 for African safari?

I was torn between taking my Nikon D7200, & investing in a 150-600 lens for long range reach, or taking a Sony RX-10 iV which offers convenience & versatility, for a recent trip to Kenya.

Finally I took a gamble on the Sony, & I must say I am pleased with the decision & results.

Attached are a few examples, all straight out of the camera....

I can certainly recommend this Sony, it exceeded my expectations.

Great job, beautiful photos. I have the Mark 3 version, and it's the best travel camera I've ever owned. Pretty much a grab-n-go camera. Has everything needed built in.

Excellent decision. My husband & I returned a few weeks ago. We were on 2 safaris with Aussie friends. I had my D7200 & D500 with 2 lenses - one on each body. My Aussie buddy had the Sony RX10 iv (his neck & shoulder won’t take the weight of a DSLR). His images were excellent. I am seriously considering purchasing that camera for my next long trip with severe carry-on weight limits. My back up would be a less expensive bridge or a good point and shoot.

Nice Safari shots! Great to see some examples of what the RX10IV can do on a Safari trip.

Yes, it is a high specification camera and has an ideal zoom lens
which makes for a superb travel camera as your photographs
have illustrated.
All you need in just one camera.
Well taken.

You have a great eye for composition. I couldn't match it in a million years. You can actually see the people in the hot air balloon. Pretty amazing for a camera with such a small sensor.
