Would like to get feedback from anyone who has one of the Sony RX100's. Let me know which models and what you like/don' like.
Thanks

I had the M2 originally, but sold it for the M4 because of the popup viewfinder. I have taken some pretty acceptable images with the M4 (see Duck Days of Summer posted this morning). Excellent in low light, decent 24-70 zoom and very discrete.

We have the earlier model RX100 without the viewfinder, and it is an excellent camera. I would recommend buying one with the viewfinder which was not available when we purchased ours. For the small size of the camera and the high quality images it produces I don't think you can go wrong with one of the rx100 series cameras. If size is not a major factor I would also consider the rx10 series which are also excellent and have a longer zoom range than our camera.
I had the RX 1 but when the 3 came out quickly adopted it mainly for the built-in pop-up view finder. I have no interest in movies so 4k etc. in the later models is meaningless to me as well as the cost.

I am a big natural flash guy so my favorite is the RX100 II because it has a hot shoe. The I,III, IV, V, and VI do not have a hot shoe. So, with the RX100 II, when inside, I attach my Sony 60 flash, yes, the big one, I turn the head around so it is facing up and behind me for that very natural flash lighting that I can also get with my Nikon DSLR's. This camera also has a fixed 1.8 though out it's zoom range of 28-100 Zeiss lens.

I have the rx100m3. It is a fabulous camera, I like that it is full function, has a pop up viewfinder a fast 24-70 lens equivalent and a pop up flash. It has 20 mp and can take high res photos. I use mine shooting raw and manual for the most part. I don't like that is doesn't have a hot shoe so that I could mount a trigger and use Off camera flash... It is also a pricey and doesn't have interchangeable lens capability. Although 24 x 70 is a decent walk around lens that covers most of my basic needs. the M6 just coming out has increase the zoom range to 24 - 200 however at a reduced aperture (the m3 has a 1.8 to 2.8 through the range) the m6 is f2.8 - 4.5 and is a whopping $1200 it has a higher frame rate and a much faster better processor.

Agree on all counts. If you're wondering about the RX100m6's lens quality, checkout Friedman's blog (
