It may take quite a few call transfers to find someone who really knows, since CS6 hasn't been supported for a long time...

The link I posted about Lr5 is interesting. After a certain OS upgrade, you have to "stand on one foot, rub belly, and yell your name at the same time" to get some things to work. That's enough to tell me, "Just upgrade."

If you don't want a subscription, there's always Affinity Photo, On1, Capture One, etc.

Bill, I am taking this opportunity to upgrade.
I just want all my programs to work seamlessly, and I know that is going to be a hassle.

Another good reason for AdobeCC.

My “vintage” MacBook Pro just died. The cost of repair is more than the computer is worth. I just purchased a 27in iMac. When it is delivered, Apple will transfer the data from my old computer to the new one. The problem is, no one at Apple can tell me which photo editing software will transfer. I’m told we will have to wait and see. I have Lr 5, PS CS6, Topaz (all programs and Studio), ON 1, and some of the Anthropics software (Portrait Pro, and others).

I am very anxious to see what happens. Does anyone have any idea what will transfer, and what difficulties I will encounter trying to get them up and running?
Thanks.
Steve

Don't know if you can still get LR5 downloadable from Adobe, but either way, go to your Adobe account page and look for the purchased software section. Last time I did this, I had to look closely, since it's buried in menus. You should be able to redownload and get your serial numbers.

For Anthropics, you can find your serial numbers and download whatever version you purchased.

For Topaz, your Topas account page has a listing of all your serial numbers and download links to your software. They also have a Topaz Suite download, which gets you everything with the exception of Impressions, Textures and Glow (I think). You have to go through the install process plug in by plug in, entering your serial numbers (cut and paste) when you open the Filter program for the first time.

Tedious, I know.

For Topaz, go to your Topaz account page where you will find all your registered serial numbers.

Thanks. This sounds quite helpful. Unfortunately, I can’t use my computer to search for any information, as it has totally crashed. (The reason I bought a new one.) I will have to wait until I get my new one. I might be able to use my phone or iPad.

Probably not. You will likely have to reinstall everything.

It really is better to start off with a clean slate. All the Genius Bar is going to be able to transfer is the native iOS apps anyway.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I’m not a tech wizard. My concern is that I will have all kinds of difficulty reinstalling my programs. I intend to start with a clean slate, so to speak, by first subscribing to Adobe creative cloud. Then either entering activation codes or reinstalling each program. Sounds simple when said with confidence. In actuality, I have very little idea how to do any of this. Should be an adventure.

Topaz if contacted will give you your keys. Also you can download the latest versions

Since Apple is doing the transfer, and they don't know, answers you receive here would be guesses. I don't understand why software couldn't be transferred from one hard drive to another. When I went from hard drive to SSD, I used software and a cable to copy the old drive onto the new.

Let us know how this turns out.

When I switched from my old 21” Mac which was dying of old age to my new 27”, everything went seamlessly. Actually, I didn’t do it myself. My son-in-law, who is a computer tech, attached a USB cord to both computers, used a copy program already in the new Mac, and presto!

Bear in mind that if any of your apps is 32-bit code, it will not work AT ALL on some future version of MacOS — probably 10.15, but possibly 10.14, due this Fall.
Correct. Any easy way to see which applications are 32-bit or 64-bit code is via: Apple > About This Mac > System Report > Software > Applications. Wait while the Mac creates the list. Sort the "64-Bit (Intel) column at the far right. View your 32 and/or 64-bit apps.

Really?! That’s encouraging. Even the non-Apple programs?
