I have a client who lives in Peoria, AZ. I am not familiar with the area and was wondering if anyone knew of a place to do a photo shoot close to the area? If not, what are your favorite places to shoot in the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe area?

Peoria is north-west of downtown Phoenix.
I like the Desert Botanic Garden in Phoenix: http://www.dbg.org

Sedona, north of Peoria. Montezuma's castle...again just north of Peoria.

Sedona is several hours north-east of Phoenix, and Montezuma's Castle is even farther away.

Goldfield Ghost Town looks like a movie set, and has several picturesque settings suitable for a photo shoot: http://www.goldfieldghosttown.com

About 20 freeway miles east of Mesa.

I don't know what kind og backdrop you are looking for but lake Pleasant is about 20 miles north of Peoria, the Phoenix Zoo has some nice scenery, White Tank Mountain Park is close,Squaw Peak Park is nice too. It is monsoon season here so the desert is green and the sunsets are phenomenal. Goldfield Ghost town is more like 40 miles away but is snuggled up against the Superstition Mountains. Saguaro Lake is near to that area as is Apache and Canyon Lakes. The Tempe Lake and downtown areas are nice for urban shoots. It just depends on what you want for a backdrop. You are not going to have any problems finding a great site to shoot. Be aware that Phoenix Area traffic is a bear from 7:00 am - 9:00 am and from about 3:00Pm til 6:00pm. I would probably check out Squaw Peak Park first.

Sedona is beautiful but it is also about 100 miles north of Peoria so is Montezuma's Castle. In my book that is more than "just" north of Peoria. Old Town in Scottsdale might be someplace you might want to check out too. It has a cowboy flavor to it.

West of Peoria are the White Tanks, a mountain preserve. Very pretty place. But this time of year VERY hot.

Actually, there is a preserve right in Phoenix with several mountains.

What kind of photo shoot are you going to be doing?
What type of scenery do you want?
Peoria has Lake Pleasant.
How much time do you have and how far are you willing to travel,
west of Peoria in Tonopah is a sanctuary for wolf/dogs and you can do photos there with the critters.
Like Nikonian72 said "the botanical gardens is a great place"

Sorry to disagree but Montezuma's castle is between Peoria and Sedona. Regardless, the short drive out of Peoria is well worth the trip to visit both locations.
