In early September, I will hike Hadrian's Wall Path in northern England. Will walk from Carlisle to Newcastle. Any thoughts on this area for things to focus on. I think this is largely rural with lots of landscape possibilities. Thanks for the input. Jay
Just remember, she ain't what she used to be.
We were there several years ago. There are long stretches of just the wall with the ruins of mile forts along it, also nearby villages. There is a lot to see and shoot.

Loads of info on Google (search for Hadrian's Wall -on Northumbria National Park and National Trust websites) but one you shouldn't miss (it's on "the walk") is Sycamore Gap ....... a lone sycamore tree ...... here's my favourite of it (not one of mine but freely available on the web !).

Suggest you spend an extra night at the Twice Brewed Inn and spend a full day at Vindolanda. It's the ruins of an old Roman fort with a brilliant museum on site.
Lots of Roman ruins along the walk which make great shots. When you get to Newcastle catch the metro out to Wallsend to view the very good museum there.

Don’t forget to call-in at Lanercost Abbey, it makes some good shots. I’m not familiar with the full length of wall but there are points of interest along the way and you have some quite dramatic countryside to include as well. Envy you that walk, hope all goes well for you.
Sounds good. I look forward to your pictures.
We were there in June and the weather was surprisingly good. This was our second or third trip to the Lake country and north, our favorite part of England. Landercost and Priory has good food (resting place and very clean facilities).

Bring coal.
You have it backwards. The saying is "don't bring coal to Newcastle."

Fascinating area. Wish you well on your long walk. Rain often happens. Many other historic spots not too far: Durham, Lindisfarne (Holy Isle), etc., etc. And, by the way, since the closing of nearby mines, coal is being brought to Newcastle.

Search HADRIAN'S WALL on here and a no. of posts come up. I'm guessing that if you're contemplating this from afar you'll have done a fair bit of research already. I've only driven along the accompanying road, but seem to recall the first part climbing up to the moors to be quite dramatic so remember to look back frequently for the view.
This link might help (if you haven't found it already).
Take good waterproofs, good walking boots, and camera protection such as the Optech sleeves.
I did the walk last year in June and only had one day of rain but this is quite unusual.
It is a fabulous trip and is not too strenuous. Great landscape shots all along the actual wall.
