Something new to you?

These are some of the creatures out there that may be unknown to you. Reference is LIFE IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY, By Lippson and Lippson. The photos first are sea roaches, 30 mm, Ligia exótica. Sea pillbugs, 8mm, Sphaeroma quadradentatum, not seen)are similar to land pill bugs. Note the inverse proportion in name and creature lengh. They may be together feeding on sea lettuce. The 'roaches' are deep in the rocks,in shafts of sun, and alert, movement, gone. Two plus meters away, tube on 70-300kit canon lens. Arrive, find a wet sunny spot, wait a few minutes. They will slowly regather. The blob in water is a bryozoan colony. Pectinalella sp.? This one soft ball size. May grow to 15 kilos or more by fall. This is in an outflow stream from a lake. Docshark would love this place, alive with dragonflies. Cannot find bryozoans. Here are a few from the stream. Very hot day. Dragonfly laying eggs, another and it's shadow on a rock. Maryland red belly turtles. Before anyone says painted turtles, two things. Too large. The other is a notch in upper beak to fit the ' tooth 'in the lower. Unique. Bill
