I was browsing eBay and found this camera for sale at a price of $499.99. The seller states that it is very rare. In all accompanying photos it appears legit. It's basic characteristics appear similar to the T70 and T50 models.
However I was unable to locate any information on the internet related to this model. It does not even appear on Canon's camera museum web site.
Has anyone ever seen one of these?

I can tell just by the picture that it is some kind of cheap counterfeit knock-off of a Canon. Wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole, unless it cost $5.00 and I wanted a novelty.
That's exactly why my suspicions are.

One thing that bothers me is it’s has a Kalamar lens I don’t think they ever made a lense for any Canon camera!
I remember years ago some people had Pentax cameras but couldn't afford the lenses, so got Kalimars.
Stay away-- your instincts are fine.

STRANGE! Rare bird for sure. The designation "T-5" is assigned to a current issue of the Canon Rebel. Going by the back view of this camera, what with the shape of the back cover and the appearance of a rewind knob/crank atop the right side of the body, it appears to be a film camera. I don't recall any earlier film model from Canon with that T-5 number. The lens looks authentic enough- a typical aftermarket model. Someone went to the effort of engraving a serial number on the rim. Hey- just noticed it has a built in "motor drive" called an automatic film transport- perhaps it is spring driven- most cool. That's worth 50 bucks! The "motor" housing makes for a nice grip.
Never know- it coud be a model that was never imported into North America? When I first saw the image, I thought it was one of those novelty items shaped like a camera- a pencil sharpener or something. The crank?- Maybe it's a coffee grinder. Nikon has coffee mugs that, from a distance, look like real lenses. The styling looks like 1970s or thereabouts. Maybe it "collectable"? Funny if it was a valuable one-of-a kind prototype.
Knockoff? don't know! The Russians made knockoff "Hasselblads" amd Leicas"- well they kinda copied the industrial design but they did not fake the logos. The Japanese, back in the 50s made knocked off Rolleiflexs but they called them Yashica-Mats! In cinematography, the Russians had a knockoff Arriflex called a Krasnogorsk. It was popular in the WWII era when German gear was contraband. Though I mention some trivia this morning.
Sometimes collectors pay good money for strange stuff! There was an ugly folding camer from Zeiss call a Contessa Nettle going for 5 grand on the collectors market. I know a collector you paid a fortune for a "Luftwaffer" Leica- UGH! Recently. a 1920s vintage Leica went at auction for over a million dollars- CRAZY!
I thank me, my wife and kids thank me and if my parents were alive, they would thank me for not being a camera collector- just a user and that's bad enough.

Your T5 is indeed a Canon manufactured body. It is a special issue of the T50 that was intended only for sale through US Military PX outlets. The Kalimar lens is not original as the T5 came with a Canon FD 50mm F1.8 lens attached. The Kalimar was obviously added by the seller or a previous owner.
Thanks GC, my searches turned up nothing at all except for the digital T-5. I am familiar with the T-50.

At that price I would sell my two Cannon (AE-1 & AE-1 Program) and the six lenses that go with them.
So, as it turns out this IS a true Canon camera. It is in fact a T50 branded T-5 for sale only though US Military. The seller provided photos of a water damaged user manual. It has the same cover as the T-50 manual with the exception that the "T-50" on the corner was filled with a black box with T-5 in it. Never the less $499.99 US still seems to be rather exorbitant a price. It won't show up in my collection.
