Hard to believe that people are losing lots of lens caps out of their pockets. Where do they carry their wallets, and are they constantly losing those? Also, are any professionals shooting with their lens caps hanging on a string, or has anyone seen a professional shooting with their lens cap hanging on a string? I haven't.

I've never seen that either. But hey, if somebody is happy with their lens caps dangling around from a string attached to their lens barrel that's their business. I personally would find that extraordinarily distracting and completely unnecessary as I've never lost a lens cap, ... ever. Of course anything is possible, but, some people are more careless or forgetful than others, so for them I see the need. A number of posters have indicated they have lost many lens caps over the years. It's hard to understand how, but if they lose that many they absolutely should attach them to their lenses. They should probably also attach their mittens to the sleeves of their coats with a string in the winter time. If it's so difficult for them to hold on to something as simple as a lens cap, what else are they losing?

Sorry, I wasn't shouting. All caps was on. I was referring to the guy, who said he never removed his caps.
someone asked how he took photos with the caps in place.

Why are shouting, and who is the "he" to which you are referring? Using "Quote Reply" when you post helps eliminate confusion.

Does anyone use a string to hold their lens cap when shooting or anything else to hold the cap outside of your pocket? I feel safer with the string holding the cap.

The string gives a false sense of security. I know from personal experience. Just receiving a new one tomorrow because I lost my stringed one. Pockets are great.

We haven't yet gotten into the
creative potential of lens caps.

still haven't gotten anywhere
near to it. Shame on us :-(

But which lens caps are better? Nikon or Canon?

catch the string on something and you may get the camera pulled out of your hands then what a broken camera for a dusty lens cap think about that .
