I’ve traveled a great deal with my D7100 and 18-200 using an Optech strap, which I find very comfortable. In crowded areas I always have my hand on my camera and I’ve never had a problem. This summer, however, I’m heading to Europe and early next year to Morocco, both of which are very crowded. I’m wondering if a theft proof strap would be a better option. I prefer the traditional two point attachment. The problem is that at least in the photos all the anti theft straps look uncomfortable. I’m very open to suggestions and advise. As I’m leaving in two weeks I need to make a decision very soon. Thanks in advance

I use the Pacsafe Carrysafe 75 GII Anti-Theft Neck Strap. And I find it quite comfortable. See at B&H https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1316920-REG/pacsafe_15259100_carrysafe_75_gii_anti_theft.html

In addition to the Carry Safe strap recommended, there are also Sun Sniper sling style straps from Germany with embedded steel cable.

The Pacsafe Sling strap looks like a great option although I use a Black Rapid sling....now looking at the Pacsafe. I travel to Europe quite a lot and have never had a problem with theft but rgrenader is correct, more pick pockets in Italy and Spain than anywhere else in Europe, especially Rome, Naples & Barcelona. I prefer to use a sling strap, easier on the neck and I can cradle the camera under my hand/arm when in crowded areas. I try and keep things to a minimum when out & about, carry as little as possible but whatever you think you'll need. And rgrander is also correct about crowds, very crowded, especially in summer and on holidays. UK (with the exception of London), France, Germany, and the rest of the adjacent countries are quite safe, never had any problems, but always maintain situational awareness, basically your surroundings. I travel with a Sony A6500 and a mid zoom and one wide angle, never needed anything larger.

Morocco? Have absolutely no idea

As a side note, we were in Trier Germany at a Christmas Market in 2016 the same day a bomber attacked the Berlin Christmas Market....there must have been over 3000 people attending the Trier market, would have been a prime target, however the police presence was impressive....but I/we still maintained awareness. Have a great trip

Check out the Optech Urban Sling. Same comfort, but with incorporated Stainless Steel cables inside for extra security and anti-theft.

Instead of a safety strap, consider a Cotton Carrier. It provides total security even when the camera(s) is not in your hands. When I am traveling I carry my D800 with an f2.8 24-70mm, and sometimes a D90 as a second camera on a Cotton Carrier with a couple Adorama Slinger lens cases attached. The Cotton Carrier locks in and centers the D800 on my chest and eliminates neck and back strain. A second camera can lock in a second attached holder on the side. I attach Slingers on the side straps. One or two hold lenses and a third holds my SB-700 flash. The cameras disconnect from the Cotton Carrier with a quarter twist for instant access and safety straps prevent damage if the camera should fall from my hands or if someone tries to grab it.

With the Cotton, cameras are not swinging on neck straps where they can collide with door jams, other obstructions and people. The Cotton allows me to carry my cameras all day long; something I could not do with any of the other bags I have used because of my back problems. Also, I can walk around in foreign countries without the worrying about someone grabbing a camera out of my hands, since on or off the Cotton they are always physically connected to me via the safety straps. Also, the Cotton Carrier has a front pouch that contains a rain cover for your camera that can come in very handy.

I hope you enjoy Europe and Morocco. Morocco is a place you will never forget.

Looks cool and I am an Optech fan, but I have been shying away from Fastex Buckle straps since I once saw someone unclip a camera in the wink of an eye.

The "Strap" has no quick release buckles on it for high security. The only quick release system is on the camera connectors and they are BOTH within 2 inches of the camera body. Someone would have to be a real magician to be able to release both units without you noticing since the sling holds the camera tight to your hip at all times. And most people have their hand on or right next to the body anyway while using a sling strap.

I just received one last week and test wore it at the county fair. It works and feels like the other Op Tech slings in the lineup. The strap/shoulder pad are integral and the wire runs in the strap from the back end of the pad to a few inches past the middle of the strap. At first, I though that was a bit strange, but then if someone is coming straight at you with a razor, you have more important things to worry about than the strap. I also realized that if the cable ran the entire length of the strap, it wound hinder the sliding clips free travel to the front. If you are concerned about security at the camera connection quick release (or at the shoulder pad connectors), just wrap small Velcro straps through the male and female clips. Op Tech sells them, but you can get them anywhere.

Another feature I love is it incorporates the newer clip in front to quickly adjust the length of the strap as you are wearing it.

Hope you're right. I ordered one today.

If you have Op Tech already, you should know how comfortable they are. If you have the camera strap with ends that attach to the camera lugs, you will love the sling style. If you have an earlier sling, the newer urban style is just as comfortable and has the added features.

Having the strap run diagonally across your chest will make it harder to steal.
