Greetings. I have been reading postings here for sometime, rarely posting. At this time I am asking for your input, as I am seriously considering upgrading from my Canon 70D to a full frame body.

I am looking to purchase one of these fine Canon cameras for landscape, nature, birds and macro. Glass collection includes a Samyang 14 f/2.8 (for occasional dabbling in astrophotography with a Canon 60Da),
Canon 16-35 f/4 L IS, 24-70 f/4 L IS, 70-200 f/4 L (non-IS) and 100 f/2.8L IS lenses, and a Tamron 150-600 G2.

I like the idea of vari-angle/touch screen capability, and advanced AF features, and high ISO performance, and, and, and..., but there is no such camera body in existence which hits all the sweet spots. Would like to hear from those who have found themselves in a similar position, which camera features they feel are more/most useful in real-world applications, and which of these items influenced their purchasing decision.

As always, price can be a limiting factor (hence the considering of refirbs). However, at the same time and do not want at some point in the future to have second thoughts and go through the could have/should have's.

Looking forward to any/all input.

Regards

The best camera of this set is the 5DIV. If you can't afford, the options you say you value are offered by the 6DII. If you want the 'value buy', find a well taken care of 5DIII that are now regularly selling at $1500 or less (used, not refurb).

The 5D III and the 6D II are trailing in all features. The 5D IV has a touchy-feelie screen I do not use but the rest of the camera is by far ahead of the other two. It's only draw-back IMO is only one CF card slot but the rest of the camera is a pleasure to work. The AF is one of Canon's best, it handles noise very well, shoots 4-K video and 30 mega pixels is a good all-around sensor including macro. The 5D IV will set you back a few more $$$ but it offers you more options in shooting. If it is available refurbished is my only option, and I use it often.

I tend to use 5D Mk iv bodies for most of my general photography work. I don’t do much landscape shooting, but I see no reason why it shouldn’t excel at that; it certainly does a fine job with general nature, Birds, and ultra-close range and macro photography.

It’s the most expensive body you are considering, and (in my opinion) there’s a good reason for that. It’s the best of the three you have selected as candidates for your next purchase.

lil, there's another camera that you did NOT mention. Look at used 5Ds's. For what you mention the 50mp is pretty hard to beat. It's not as new as the 5lV but is an extremely capable camera.
IF you don't feel you need a high frame rate it's an awesome camera and probably hitting $2000 used!
Good luck

I had a 6D and loved it. I had it teamed with a 7DII for my birds.
I traded both, some collectible old cameras and some lenses for a 5DIV and 80D plus a 100-400L mk 2.
I had started to get a 6DII and the reason I stepped up to the 5DIV was I got a retroactive check from a pension fund and could afford it. I have met some people who use the 6DII and they are very pleased with it. It is a very good FF camera, the 5DIV is a great FF. I got the 80D for the newer sensor and 27 F/8 focus points, but now I find I miss all the controls and options of the 7DII. I will probably get a 7DIII when they come out and the 80D will go to my wife who says she wants to learn and move beyond the SX-50 she is using. Then the SX-50 will become our backup and for times when we need to keep things light and small.

If you have the money go for the 5DIV, if you want to save money or put it into lenses than the 6DII would be the way to go. The 5DIII is a great camera whose day of being cutting edge is past. It would be my last choice of the three.

Agree with all of the above. Short of a 1DX the 5DMIV is a do it all Camera!!

And it (5DMkIV) has one of those foolish anti-aliasing filters as part of the sensor. I believe they did away with that in the 5DSR.

All the advice given is very good. I would have got the 5D4 last winter but my limited budget stopped me so got the 6D2 and I'm quite happy with it as does everything I have tried very well. Guess for you depends on budget and purposes.

How limiting? Or what is your budget?

The 5D's do have two cards - one CF card but also A SD.

I just purchased a second used 5D MK4 for 2K in perfect little used condition on Craigs List. The guy was 76 and felt it was a bit heavy for him and was going to go with a mirrorless. I just upgraded the Firmware with the latest download and could not be happier ... A Great work horse, low light focus is much improved and contrast is notably better than the old MKIII ...

I think it's the other way around.

These are all great cameras, and I think you will enjoy the ff option!! Personally, I would choose between the 5d mk iv and the 6d ii. I have the 5d mk iv now, and it is my favorite camera of all cameras I have owned. The iq is good, it is easy to use, and relatively light weight for the quality of the camera. It is very good in low light. It has a touch screen that really works well both in changing settings and in focusing. I haven't tried the other two, but I did own a 6d for a long time, which I bought because of its price, iq, ease of use and weight compared to the 5d mk iii. It also is very good in low light shooting, I thought quite a bit better than the 5d mk iii. Had the 6dii come out before the 5d mk iv, I might have gotten that one, as it improved on most of the things I thought needed improving in the 6d. I have bought a couple of cameras and most of my lenses from Canon refurbished. Everything I have acquired was like new. I highly recommend it. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of these cameras, but if you can find a 5d mk iv in your price range, I would choose that one. If money is an issue, the 6d is still an amazing camera!

There are at least two features in which the Canon 6D Mk II leads: 1) Price, 2) Articulating Screen. The articulating screen is a must for me at my age.
