Peterlongo Loc: Calexico,

Found lens in excellent shape at a garage sale for $2.75: Canon Zoom FD 70-210mm 1:4. [1] Would this lens be usable for a Nikon D700 and [2] If so - converter recommendation?
Thanks

I guess they make adaptors for everything. Look here. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=nikon+to+canon+lens+adapter&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=4353336789&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=20186576992014975206&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_64szsptapc_b#/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_24?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=canon+nikon+lens+adapter&sprefix=canon+nikon+lens+adapter%2Caps%2C154&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Acanon+nikon+lens+adapter

He wants to put a Canon FD lens on a Nikon body Jerry. Your search was for Nikon lenses on Canon EOS bodies, not quite the answer.

To the OP, one question, WHY???

It's funny, when I looked this up, I had no idea how to word it, so I said Canon to Nikon adaptor. That gave me the opposite of what I wanted. So, I switched it around, and Amazon gave me a different listing. BUT it was for the same type of adaptor! Live and learn. Apparently there is a lot of money to be made in adaptors because they exist in all fields, connecting one to the other and the other to the one.

I kind of thought that was what happened. They make an adaptor to put almost any lens on almost any body. I have played with a few and always been disappointed except for the Pentax 6x7 lens to Pentax 645 body adapter, that one was actually made by the Pentax factory and worked wonderfully. I just never understood why anyone would do this with a mediocre lens, I could see wanting to do so with a high quality lens though.

I was waiting (and hoping!!) for your "real" reply. Thanks! Would love to hear your further discussion on this. Please elucidate on the "damage" that could possible take place, if you would.

No it will not work for you but I will reimburse you the full purchasing cost if you ship the Canon Zoom FD 70-210mm 1:4 to me because it is in good condition.

I know you can use a Canon on a Nikon, because Canon has a shorter flange to film-plane distance, so with the adapter, it comes out to the correct distance. Using a Nikkor on a Canon would be like putting an extension tube on the camera body....and even with the "correct" adapter, it MAY not focus to infinity!

Nikon lenses are more adaptable to Canon than vice versa IIRC. Any lens. Can be fitted with an element to be able to achieve infinity focus but at a cost in image quality
