I love my D850, but should I have held off?

I’ve owned several Nikon dslr’s, last year I purchased a D850 and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. Now, with Nikon announcing their soon to be released mirrorless camera I can’t help but think I should have held off, especially since I’ve purchased this a couple extra lens afterwards. It is what it is and since I like landscape and wildlife photography the D850 should serve me well for a number of years. And, if their adapter to allow F mount lenses to the mirrorless bodies functions as it should, all will not be lost. I have to wonder if the D850 and D5 will be the last of their dslr’s?

You have been enjoying your D850 and creating images you are happy with. Don't second guess your self as you always can get GAS when the Mirrorless comes out.

I have to believe that Nikon will have adaptors for all your lens. I have had many mirrorless Sony cameras.
You can adapt many lens to the cameras. With the right adaptor. But isn't their a flange or size issue that
might be a problem. Dont know enough about that. I would love to have the 850 but only kept some of
my Nikon lens. You are in good shape. Good luck.

I've always found that it often doesn't pay to grab the first editions of something, especially when it costs a lot like the new Nikon mirrorless cameras are sure to be. Best to wait until they've been out for awhile to see how they actually work and any bugs worked out before jumping in there.

Yes.

Just kidding. Go use your camera. Keep it until you truly know you need something else.

Ever heard the old phrase, "I'd rather have the bottle in front of me rather than a frontal lobotomy?"

The Nikon D850 is, by my personal experience and that of multiple respected Photographers, amateur and Professional, the most capable and advanced DSLR on the market. It is a camera designed and built for Professionals and us talented amateurs.

Use the camera you have, not the camera that you think you might have. Let Nikon shake the bugs out of firmware, etc on whatever their mirrorless is going to be called. Also, based on the D850 production pipeline, unless you're Jared Polin, Matt Granger or the Northrops, it will be Q4-2019 before you will be able to get your hands on one.

I have several DSLR'S and decided it's time to try mirrorless. My MILC selection was bases on my lens collection. I bought a Canon M50 and an EF to EF-M adapter. The M50 is a really nice little camera and it's capable of recording really nice images but it's not my go to camera. Why? Because, like most all mirrorless cameras, it's too small. The hardest thing to learn about that camera so far has been adapting to its size. I'm sure I'll adjust to it eventually but for now I prefer my EOS 5D IV. What I've been doing is, put my EF 100-400L II on the 5D IV and my EF 24-105L II on the M50. Seems to work out ok.

We've been conditioned by all the hype surrounding us to have the next, greatest, bestest (sic), holiest, etc. creation that comes out. Don't second guess yourself. You're happy with your D850, get out there and shoot to your hearts content and don't look back (or forward). You may find a future piece of gear that you "absolutely" must have. We all get GAS attacks. As long as you're not spending the house money, go for it.

Remember it's your vision in the viewfinder, not the camera's.

Happy shooting.

As with most tech, it can be replaced with newer TEK every 6 months.
I would love to have the D850, but my D810 still takes great pics . Nikon might come out with a good medium format mirror less,? think you should wait?, Think of all the shots you would not have taken!

Perhaps you will not enjoy the mirrorless system. Many do not.

You've got one of the best cameras ever made. What will a camera which we don't even know the specs of allow you to do, that you cannot currently do? If you're that unhappy, sell it. You won't take much of a loss at this stage.

I suggest that you spend more time thinking about images than hardware!

I love my wife but I should of held out for Christie Brinkley.
Send your 850 to me. I have a thousand just burning a hole in my pocket. PM me with your Paypal info and for my address.
Seriously, you have had this camera less than a year and already the buyer's remorse has kicked-in?

yes, you should have waited. sell the 850 now, you won't be able to give it away after the mirrorless comes out, in fact I'll give you $200 right now I'm kind of a masochist and I like big heavy, outdated cameras, I shoot a Kodak DCS Pro n right now.
