Wonderful shots and the cheapest way for me to visit there.

Thanks for your compliments. Reviewing the photos is a cheap way to return when the heat in Boston gets oppressive. The highs on Visarje were barely 70 and the nighttime lows about 47. Went nowhere without a jacket or sweatshirt. Alas, the photos do not capture the aromas.

Love the story...excellent set.

Thanks. I've worked my entirely professional career with the elderly. Working with teens was a new adventure. This was the third year for the camp. Would be more than happy to return next year.

Excellent, interesting photos. I really enjoyed seeing these, and will look for more to come.
I’ll bet that it was nice to find the so-called unspoiled village, too.

Thanks. My jaw was dropping as the gondola approached the village. Very small. Cobblestoned. Nothing is level including the church floor that slopes back gently from altar to door.

Such beauty and peace. All from our Father.

Thanks. I think I read and prayed with psalm 104 the entire week even though it was not part of the office that week. We met in the church at 7:30 AM for the offices of readings and lauds, in either Italian or Slovenian, that ended with chanting the ancient Salve Regina and then again at 7:00 PM for vespers. The kids joined us for the evening office which was said in Slovenian and also ended with the chanting of the Salve. I was astounded by the number of pilgrims who made the ascent either on foot or via gondola to come to Mass (10 AM, 11 AM, and noon). The last gondola down was at 5:15 PM. Except for the few guests staying in a small inn the mountain then went silent.

Thanks for the tour. A truly wonderful set.

Thanks. Relatively speaking this was a last minute thing. Am grateful my superiors gave permission and support to do this.

Good memory keeping snap shots friack.
Need some exposure adjustments.
The first one also needs a straightening up - about 2 degrees clockwise.

Thanks for the feedback. It was a good trip. I don't think anything is straight on top of the mountain. I was tempted to put a cue ball on the church floor to see where it would go. I gravitate toward a degree of underexposure and chiaroscuro in much of what I shoot. The lighting in the church is challenging as, except for the altar which is brilliantly illuminated, the rest is in shadow with minimal lighting along the side aisles. Had to use the gradient adjustment often for interior shots to strike a balance between almost burned out at the altar and way too dark for the rest of the interior.

What a gorgeous setting! You are so lucky to be able to spend time there - and not as a tourist.

Thanks. One of the graces of the time I spent there as well as in Ljubljana was being there for an extended period and thus coming to know the place. The church and the mountain were available at times when they were not accessible to others because the gondola was not operating. Returning to Ljubljana is more like returning home than is true for other cities in which I've lived and worked, particularly after nine years in D.C., a city in which I never felt at home.

What a great opportunity to minister the Faith and educate young people. I Googled Monte Lussari and learned of the image of the Madonna of Lussari. Could you PM me a interesting info you might have about the Madonna? TIA.

Will do.
