Yea Raw Files......
Just to show how great RAW is..... I went to our local rock covered river in hopes of grabbing some shots of Great Blue Herons. To my amazement, there seemed to be a convention of herons cavorting about. I had previously set my 60D to take RAW and JPEGs, but I went ahead and selected the contrast, sharpness, etc that the camera affords. I took a couple of hundred shots very quickly. There was such an abundance of subjects that I never glanced at the LCD screen, just kept firing away with my Tamron 70-300. When I got home and began looking at the images on the computer screen, I was surprised to find that all the jpegs were in black and white, which in my haste I had inadvertently set the camera up for. However, the RAW files were all in great color, all the data having been saved in spite of the stupidity of the camera operator (me). This, just to show that RAW files can forgive even the dumbest photographer.
Hope this helps someone.
Dan
Yes - raw is the way to go for many, and is fairly forgiving (especially with WB). I only shoot JPEG when I'm doing intentional bursts and need the write speed.
BTW, raw is not all cap's like JPEG and TIFF - it is not an acronym, just raw data.
I also shoot mostly in raw. But because of the size of the raw files I only buy memory card 16g class10 that allows me over 900 shots in raw. Like snowbear I will switch to jpeg if I need continuess shooting.
My raw shots I bring into Lightroom PP export as DNG open in PS5 for any additional retouching save and save again as jpeg so I have 3 files raw, DNG, jpeg.
My raw files goes on external drive two to be used in case i need org. DNG and jpeg stay on external drive 1.
I do not keep any photos on my computer. (takes to much room)
That's why I never let the camera make my decisions. NOW........if I could just figure out where the RAW setting is for my wife..............
I shoot in RAW and Jpeg and once I download I begin deleting the majority that usually aren't keepers. However when the subject comes up I like to post these three for people to see the advantage of RAW as well. Some of you may have seen these before but if not, I went to a museum and got out of my car and took a quick shot of a fountain and forgot to adjust the settings. When I got home I saw this. So these are the original jpeg unaltered, then the jpeg after I did my best with PP then I went to the RAW file and made adjustments with that and ended up with a photo.

aya, the subject comes up quite frequently as more and more people get into the hobby.
Can you upload a DNG file here and can it be displayed?
What can you do with a DNG file?
