Hi Everyone,
First, thanks in advance for your help. I just don't have the heart to do the research. Someone helped themselves to my D7MII along with another Canon 40D, all the lenses, case, everything. - I am heartbroken. I am sure that some of you can relate! I started with Canon because someone loaned me a Canon and that is the system I know. But, a friend of mine has offered to help me get set up with a Nikon. Do any of you know what could be an equivalent to the D7MII in Nikon?

Here are the specs off of B&H - • 20.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor, Dual DIGIC 6 Image Processors, 3.0" 1.04m-Dot Clear View II LCD Monitor, Full HD 1080p/60 Video & Movie Servo AF, Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Live View, 65-Point All Cross-Type Phase-Detect AF, Native ISO 16000, Extended to ISO 51200, 10 fps Shooting at Full Resolution, Built-In GPS Receiver & Digital Compass, Wi-Fi Connectivity via W-E1 Adapter.

I'm not sure I need the video aspect. I think I just don't want to 'go backwards'.

Thanks again.

What did your canon not do for you that you want to change to Nikon? You know how you’re canons work it seems changing would be going backwards

Nikon - D500

But, are you searching specifically for high frames per second performance? Or, equivalent focal length via a cropped sensor? If I was determined to change to Nikon and wasn't limited by cost, I'd go with a full frame D850.

DSLRs come with video, by default. You really pay more if you want one without video and the options are limited.

Hi Everyone, br First, thanks in advance for your... (show quote)

Sorry for your loss, but how familiar were you with your 7D Mark II camera? I ask that because you got the name wrong every time, once in the title and twice in the body of your post. Since you seem interested in a Nikon replacement for it, I'm surprised your internet searches for a Nikon replacement didn't immediately bring the Nikon D500 to your attention. And finally, the Canon 7D Mark II is a four year old design. There are a number of camera's that better it in many, if not most, regards today. Its main current value today is its 10 fps, its auto focus system and pro level build. I have been a 7D Mark II owner since early 2015,

Personally, I’d stick with the same brand. Once you learn the controls of one brand, the other seems so foreign. I’m biased because i love the controls layout for Canon. Again, I’m a FF lover, so the 6D Mark II would be my choice.

Thanks for your comment. I liked my Canon... my friend wants to help me get started again and will help with Nikon lenses, flashes, etc. I'm just not sure I want to change.

You make a good point... If I was careful and watched ads etc. I might be able to pick a FF up for not much more than a 7DMII (got it right that time!! lol).

Is the friend a Nikon shooter who has a bunch of gear to pass to you so (s)he can upgrade?

You know Canon, I would stick with what you know instead of starting all over. I had a 7DII and miss it, I traded it, two other cameras (6D and Sigma SD14) and several lenses to get a 5DIV, 80D and a 100-400L mk II. The 5DIV is all it was said to be, the 80D has more mega pixels and more F/8 focal points, but I miss my 7DII and all those controls I thought I didn't really need. I will wait and save for later this year or sometime next when the 7DIII comes out. Some one in the family will like the 80D.

If I was starting from scratch and wanted the best action camera in a crop sensor, I'd have a hard time resisting the D500 from Nikon. Nikon has put a priority in creating the very best in their higher tiered cameras. The D500 excel in most every way but it comes at a cost and new learning. I'm a satisfied Canon camera owner but Nikon created a real winner with the D500. Also sharing lenses at times can be a real advantage with others within the same brand.

Not really is one system is gone then if one chooses to go another brand then that is up to them.

One other thing you can do - every now and again do a hard search on the internet for pictures searching for the serial number of your cameras in the Exif data. I have heard of a couple of recoveries this way do to the thieves posting pics to FB and the like...and diligent owners searching for that data. And - does your homeowners/renters insurance cover the loss? Good luck on the camera search, and enjoy whatever you choose.
