I have a wonderful 5 x 7 of my significant other taken in Roscoe Montana. During the moves I lost the negative. Is there anyway I can have this enlarged to probably and 8 x 10 or larger without losing the quality of the picture.

Really looking for some help. Thx..

Have you thought of taking a picture of it with your camera. You can bring it in and post process it as any other image and then you'll have a digi negative. It works pretty good if you experiment with the light a little bit and get a good spot. Preferably on a tripod, cable release or timer, and mirror lockup to avoid shake. Depending on your camera, you might have it blown up way larger than 8x10.

Yes, I have a pretty nice camera, can set up the tripod, time exposure, take several shots, it is a 35 mm so I should be able to get some very nice shots of it. Do not know why I did not think of that. Her children have all asked for a copy as it is really a lovely shot of their Mother. Many thanks...

You bet and you'll also have some negatives as well. Best of all worlds. Just make sure you have good light so the colors and appropriate contrast don't dull out on you. Good luck with it.

Since you're using film, may I further suggest that you bracket with either 3 or 5 shots to give yourself a little margin in case your meter gets fooled a little by the light, unless, of course, you have a copy stand with lights on it and experience using it.

I have taken photos of photos on several occasions my 1st was a book cover photo I really admired. watch the light source (diffuse well) & watch for Parallax (thru the lens viewer is best) but you may be surprised how well this can work. Of course the largest photo will make better subject & ensure MAX quality of photo to reduce flaws. If digital use maximum pixels, if film, maximize depth of field.. DOC

A good light scenario would be to get in the shade of the north side of a house about mid-morning where your picture could be illuminated by the soft, even north light. No flash.

I would make a suggestion photograph the 5x7 then when you get the film processed have them put the photos on a CD then you can get them on your computer and you can do what ever you want with it.

Take it in to commerical shop that does high end scanning.

You will then have a file that can be "tweaked" if you liked and then printed out.

Just another option.

There is going to be a loss of quality regardless of the method, so don't be surprised.

Have you considered running the photo through a scanner? Many home computer users have printers with a scan capability. Once scanned, the digital image can be enhanced with free photo editing software such as Picasa, then printed at home or at a local facility such as WalMart, CVS, etc..

Isn't it funny how we can get locked in sometimes. I try to be flexible and think of all the options but sometimes I just get "lockjaw." I find myself trying to read what's not being said in the posts based on what is. Sometimes that leads me to "fatal" mistakes. Sometimes not. There's so many possible variables with this stuff that it's hard to come up with all the answers, especially when you don't have much input and don't want to take the time to go back and forth trying to get the answers you need to work the puzzle. It gets tricky. Maybe that's why the saying, "two heads are better'n one?" :-)
