Hi folks,

Geese, I donno why, but feel the urge (you know this feeling well) to upgrade from my Sony DSC-H9 with it's 8.1 MP and it's 15X zoom, to the new Nikon P510, with it's 16MP and 42X zoom.

The Sony has done me quite well and I often take photos at 5MP, that enlarge and mail fine. The incredible zoom of the P510 has me in it's grip. The 16MP sensor also looks cool, but I'll guess that pics with same will almost double the amount of photo space used on the computer. How many 16MP photos can one put on an 8 or 16MB card? What number of photos could I put on a 1GB flash drive? Good question, huh?

Yeah, I've looked at the Canons and Panasonics and Sony's, and read all of the reviews. The reviews seem all the same with pro's and con's, with the P510 coming in with some of the best, and some of the worst. . . .

I donno, but was considering the Nikon 5100 DSLR, but decided that I've got too many HEAVY Nikon and Canon Film SLR's and lenses and that I really have enjoyed my bridge camera from Sony, BECAUSE of the tiny weight and zoom lens!

That said, do you think I ought to fork out $400 for the P510? I guess Nikon has an optional external battery charger and whatever else accessories? I donno. Any additional comments and suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks from the Old Goat

re the post about the bridge camera I to have been doing my homework on the bridge cameras and I was going to go for the Panasonic FZ 150 which also does raw,
then they have just brought out the
Panasonic FZ 200 this is what I will purchase, having read up on all the latest bridge cameras, watched all the youtube
reviews and from what I can see the Panasonic comes out on top FZ 200
this is only my opinion I think it is a good choice, but others may differ

Welcome to our forum, Tom. It's always nice to get an opinion from someone who has done lots of research. I'll take weeks to make up my mind. :D

I looked at the hi-res version of the flower, and then enlarged it. It was a macro, so not everything was in focus, but certain areas were sharp.

Hi Jerry....yes i know it's a macro...but considering it's got a new bright F2.8 lens to brag about posting that picture don't do the camera any justice....a novice could do better!....i would'nt post that on a forum let alone a review!.

When I see sample photos posted in reviews I always wonder who is working the camera. As we all know, the button-pusher makes a big difference. After 46 yrs of marrriage, my wife knows how to push my buttons. :D

Here is a review on the FZ 150 which is rated by many professional reviewers as best in class... I am not familiar with the 200 that another poster has recommended.

To jerryc41
The post I wrote is my opinion I don't want to get into a slanging match
but if u watch ALL the reviews on youtube you will see that the 510 is not so good i.e. video is total rubbish,
photos are soft lack of colour I could go on but as I said
I'm not into slanging matches, I have just joined the forum
so Jerryc41 be nice.
and like the man says u cannot rubbish the sample photos
but u could talk about the person whom took them
have a nice day

Hi Tom...first off ...it's me you should be quoting not Jerry...and no slanging match is needed...and quite right we can talk about the person who took them...who btw did a crap job on the macro...i have further looked of at least 3 other reviews and can confirm the FZ200 takes marvelous picture's even through the iso range....i'm just waiting to see a sample of the full zoom with Intelligent Zoom function @ 48x....now that is out of the way....the nikon is not the best at focusing in video...but then again i did not buy a video camera...i bought it for the the amazingly sharp zoom from wide to full zoom...take a look at my picture's and it might change view on soft lens b.s....Peace:D
