That a man has to work 3 jobs to get his daughter a dress is obscene.

How did you come up with that assumption?

Didn't seem to have been obscene to the father or daughter. Its amazing how the 2 liberals on here can only see the negative over the positive and the Conservatives see the exact opposite.

Welcome to the real world,Thom. We disagree on the video. I see that the father made a tough sacrifice to buy his daughter a one time formal dress. My hat is off to him!

The daughter was obviously overcome with delight and thanked her father with hugs and tears of joy.

Not every man can make $2500 per week. I did not mean to offend you or McKinney Mike. I just thought we needed to see something good that we could agree on for a change.

I meant no attack on you, or the father, or the daughter. In one way it's a very nice story. I just happen to think that it is also sad.

Is that terrible system capitalism?

I'm OK with Capitalism with the proper controls. I'm not exactly a fan, but I'd have to know a lot about what we were going to replace it with to be in favor of replacing. I would never say 'anything would be better" as that just isn't true. Unfettered unregulated capitalism would be a disaster. I guess the capitalism we have in this country is somewhere between unregulated and what I think it should be. I don't think there has to be a target of great wealth to motivate people to be innovative. At the beginning of the 20th century there were 2 inventors (there were many more but they aren't part of this story. Edison was a capitalist to his bones. He (or those working for him) invented a great many things. Tesla was mostly interested in inventing. Edison's inventions are very handy. Tesla's changed the world. Edison made a lot more money but nobody has ever called him the da Vinci of the 20th century.

It sounds like you might favor, "From each according to his ability." "To each according to his needs."

Don't tell me you are an all or nothing guy. Everything isn't either black or white. Do you really think the hardest workers make the most money today?
I really do believe you are smarter than that. I think you may be caught up in an ideology, or I may have misunderstood.

No, I don't think the hardest workers make more money. I think that they have a different ability. Read Marx and Engels and then read about the change. "To each according to his productivity." I am not, let me repeat, I am not in favor of c*******m.

I haven't advocated c*******m. I don't think it's evil, but it has never been tried in a first world country and would be a big gamble. It could be good. It could be a disaster. I've never been a gambler. I'm supposing (I'm guessing about your age, so if I'm guessing you are older than you are, I mean no disrespect) that you don't turn down either SS or Medicare. Good social programs and good protection programs, don't turn capitalism into c*******m. As AI and robots take over more and more of the job market, capitalism is going to be less and less viable. The world is becoming something you have never experienced. None of us has.
