Tomorrow I start hanging the photos for my first-ever show. I have fifteen works of various sizes, materials (glossy, canvas wrap, etc.), frames, etc. Yesterday I finally made labels that I'm happy with (I swear, choosing the design and format of the labels was harder than shooting, framing and mounting the photos!), and I've packed hooks, tape, nails and assorted mounting hardware and a hammer and a bubble level. I've even produced an "About the photographer..." sheet in its own frame.

I can't think of anything I've forgotten. Those of you who do this regularly, what things should I look for, what things should I watch out for, and is there anything else I can do/make to make this a great first exhibition?

Plan on the setup taking 1 1/2 to 2 times longer than you think it should. Bring enough water or coffee to last during the extra time.

Your images are already done. Once hung carefully inspect each image. A little dust behind the glass may draw more attention than your best print.

Best of Luck ... and enjoy!!!

If you are going to sell your prints, don't put prices on the ID cards. People will look at the image, look at the price and make a value judgement. If they want to buy, have them ask you.

Thank you. My intention is not to sell prints, so I have not listed any prices (although the woman running the venue has "suggested" pricing a few times). I have listed on the labels the title, the format, the size, and my email address. If someone is interested in purchasing a work, I'll negotiate something, and likely give the proceeds to my church.

Congratulations to you and good luck. I still remember my first show and yes, getting everything ready was much harder than taking the images and choosing the images.
I still remember I started out with 300 possible images, then, after viewing them with my son the graphic artist, several photo friends, we narrowed it down to 60, from these, we went with 30 framed and the other 30 were mounted on art board and plastic wrapped and put in bins. It was SOooooooo much fun. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
My next show will be in the fall of 2019 in Youngstown, Ohio.

Have never been there but I find having a small step stool available when hanging photos will make it go easier. I like working at chest to face height.
