Fuji XT20 for Birding

Hi I am a convert from Canon 5D II to Fuji mirrorless as could not lug it with Canon 100-400mm any more.I would appreciate if any one of you have tried Fuji XT 20 with the Fuji 100-400mm.There was some opinion that XT20 was too small to support the lens. Also is there any news about Fuji coming out with a newer version of 100-400mm lens?

This review of the Fuji 100-400mm lens may help to answer your questions. I see that Fuji released this lens only two years ago, so I'm inclined to believe Fuji has no plan to update it anytime soon.

Note that the effective focal length range of this lens at 35mm-equivalent of 152mm to 609mm mounted on the Fuji X-T20 differs from the Canon 100-400mm lens mounted on the Canon 5D II.

Good luck.

You might consider renting a Fuji X-T20 and your choice of lens for a one week period. A relatively inexpensive way to learn first hand how the combo will work for your purpose. Rentals are available from several different sources, including LensRentals.com. Their cameras are shipped quickly and very well packaged. I did it and was very pleased with the results and LensRentals’ practical Customer Service attitude. Best wishes, Ralph.

I already have XT 20 .But trying to evaluate Fuji 100-400 lens.Hence my question if any one has tried this combination.Fuji products for rent are not yet very popular in Bangalore India while Nikon and Canon Cameras and Lenses are easily available for rent.

I have the 100 -400 lens and also had the XT-20 but the evf was very small, I changed to the XT2 which I must say is excellent, with the battery pack attached the XT2 provides a better grip and makes the balance far easier, but then you are adding more weight.

The lens itself like all Fuji glass is excellent, it takes some time to learn the best focus choice with the camera though.

I believe that the Fuji 100 to 400 lens would work on the XT20, however, Jim mentioned the EVF may not be quick enough for wildlife photos and for sure the balance of this larger lens would be difficult on the XT20. I also shoot the XT2 with the battery grip. Although, I do not shoot wildlife some of the larger Fuji lenses work fine on the XT2 that has a quicker EVF and is better balanced because it is a heavier setup.

The Fuji 100 - 4oo weighs 3 pounds and the comparable canon weighs 3.5 lbs. The tamron and Sigma 100-400 weigh around 2.5 pounds. No matter WHAT camera you attach to a 100-400 bazooka, it is going to be "unbalanced".

Thanks. Will try and change to XT2.It is reassuring to know that 100-400 mm lens is good for birding.
