Daughter and I are going on a Road trip through New England and will wind up in Northern Maine. We will be ducking in and out of small towns then onto the rugged Coastine of Miane. Maine has been long ignored so we decided to pay it a visit. My Father was from St John Canada. We might ( time permitting ) go to the border or beyond.
I am taking a Nikon P90 and I just got a car charger for the camera battery. We will be renting a vehicle. Hopefully, we'll see some wildlife along the way.

Any suggestions??? We are only going for 10 days. We will be roughing it mostly.

Depending on your route and time schedule you'll find many light houses, maybe a trip up Mt Washington and see 3 states from top.

Maine has nice cities but you can go long distances only seeing blueberry fields or potatoe fields. Theres also Mt Katadin near Millinocket.

Old Route 1 north off of Route 295 north of Portland would be my choice.

Be sure to make a stop in Newport Rhode Island. I'm a life long resident of the Ocean State, plenty to photography in Newport. Historic Providence is a great place for photos as well.

I guess it depends upon what kind of photos you are looking for (landscape, flora, fauna, people, covered bridges, architecture, etc.), but many, many, ...... years ago I took a trip to Cadillac Mountain overlooking Bar Harbour, Maine. Nice view.
Newport, RI has great mansions from the industrialists of the early 20th century.
The photo opportunites are literally endless, so you might want to consider a theme for your trip and then plan out the route, stops and photos based on your 'theme'.
Just a thought. Have a great trip.

Moorehead lake area should not be missed. One thing that you should easily find there is moose. Go to Lighthousefriends.com to plan out your lighthouse visits.

once you get out on the road just be willing to take the time out to venture off the beaten path and explore..there is so much to see in the north eastern part of the states that I'm sure you will come home with plenty of wonderful shots...

Lubec, Maine and Campobello Island, New Brunswick...well worth the trip. Great lighthouse, rocky shore, fine food, great people and lots of seals!

Trips like this have been for me both exhillarating and frustrating - exhillaration from the sights I will see and enjoy and frustrating because of the scenes with no place to stop for a shot. I presume your daughter is old enough to share the driving; if not to point and shoot(?) So, my suggestion is always have your camera at hand to shoot thru the windsheild or out the side window. It works - frequently when a group of us go out on a shoot and I can get a window seat I'm always grabbing shots as we're moving.

My daughter is a 28 yr old Masters Degree student in Enviornmental science. She is doing most of the driving while I shoot photos and do a journal . I will be posting lots of photos here. My daughter and her husband are moving to Italy for four years due to a job relocation. She planned this trip for the two of us. She has never been to Maine ( the forgotten state).
I wear my camera like clothes. LOL Luckily I have two 16GB cards for the Nikon. I hope it will be enough.

If you decide to go up Mt. Washington, try the Cog Railroad, it's a real hoot. The train is an old steam engine and it travels straight up the mountain, at some pretty incredible angles.

Thank you
