State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College's training ship Empire State negotiating the Williamsburg Bridge in New York City's East River in August 2016. Happy students line the decks. She was returning from a ninety day cruise to Europe and the Mediterranean. Every summer students go on forty five or ninety day cruises usually to Europe and the Mediterranean as part of their studies. My son graduated in 2017 and visited Copenhagen, Dublin, Cork, Barcelona, Malta, Trieste, La Spezia and other places on his cruises. As a parent of a third year student on his last cruise I was able to go out into the harbor at 2:00 AM on a tour boat to wait for the ship's return. The ship is a converted freighter with dorms, classrooms and cafeteria. She 565 feet long and has served to provide housing for relief operations following hurricanes Katrina, Sandy and Harvey. The school is in Throgs Neck NY and offers degrees in marine engineering and a variety of maritime related subjects.

Love this pic. Very crisp and great composition. Beautiful in color but also think it would be stunning in B&W.
It would look good in b&w format as well. Nice capture of this ship.
Nice shot. We pass the school whenever we cross the Throgs Neck Bridge. A great learning experience for the students, and they get to visit some great places.
Terrific shot. Graduated from Maritime in 1980, deck officer. Trained on the Empire State V. Great education, great memories.
The return home via the East River never got old.
