In our local Pennywise (buy and sell weekly flyer), I saw this add and did some math, WOW are we in trouble,
It works out to, new cats- 67,143/ year
5596/ month,
187/ week
27/ day.
Where are we going to put the all.
BCSPCA, has to be true

Round up the healthy ones and ship off to Chicago where they have reported a massive rat problem. I'd rather have cats than rats.

For over 20 years I have been involved on a voluntary basis with a Cat Orphange, rehoming abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens. Mainly I travel to farms, villages, anywhere where feral cats require neutering. I trap, take to the vets, they get tested and if healthy, neutered and returned back. It is not unusual for me to have more than 20 cats in one place to trap, with many kittens to try and tame and find loving homes for them. I am presently working at a caravan site with up to 30 cats on.
Here in the UK we also have a serious problem and after all these years of doing what I do, things are no better. Until people understand exactly what your add says it can only get worse. We have many organisations putting the word out, but unfortunately people who have cats are now letting them have kittens and selling them on social media, with no checks to see if at six months of age they get them neutered! (I am not talking about pedigree breeding).
At 72 years old it would be great to think I could now say.....”hang your traps up Sylvia”. It isn’t going to happen any day soon. Hubby says I will be doing it when I have a Zimmer frame!
Thank you very much for the post Swede.

Right on Sylvia good for you and Thanks. The reason I posted it was I have to believe that the numbers quoted are rather inflated.

Keep up your good work

Thank you. No, we quote the same numbers in the UK, it is hard to believe. At one time cats never had kittens once the winter started, but now kittens are born all year round.

The missing children organizations (who want your donation) also claim that "there are 50,000 stranger abductions of children every year". Wow - sounds horrible! But do some simple math - 50,000/year equals 1,000 per year in each state on average - equals 20 kidnapped children each WEEK in each state on average. How many stranger abductions do YOU hear about in your state each year? Even in Florida (land of perverts and criminals) there is maybe one every two years. Methinks there is an exaggeration!

Statistics posited to gain support for a cause are all suspect in my view. Some are more outrageous than others.

I think the cats will need to be about 200 pounds to take care of the rats in Chicago.

Well, when you consider that a female cat can come into heat and breed at less than 6 months of age and that a first time birth will average 5 kittens, it's not so hard to believe. If all of her first litter are females and they all give birth to 5 kittens at about 8 months of age, while the mother continues to give birth to another litter---------
They give birth 9 weeks after they are bred. It isn't cheap to get them spayed and/or neutered, but if I could do it for the dozens we have had over the years, anyone can.

When I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives. Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had seven cats, each cat had seven kits, kits, cats, sacks and wives, maybe they went to Canada.
