Attached is a photo of a portion of a shadow box my dad put together of his WWII ribbons & other items. I've identified his American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, and National Defense Service Ribbon. The ribbon in between I haven't been able to find. If any of ya'll are WWII veterans or historians and have an idea what it is, I would certainly appreciate an answer. I saw a ribbon online that looked similar but the color bands that look like faded red on this one were bright yellow.

Our church is doing a veteran's appreciation dinner in October. They have asked all the veteran's for a narrative of their service, awards & decorations, and assignments. In addition, they have asked for as much information on family members who served.

Surely The U.S. Defence Office/Ministry has a website where you can access the information that you seek.
Good luck.

A possibility is that your medal was awarded by a country other than USA. Like, maybe France?

I thought so too, but the Certificate of Merit was last issued in 1918.

Did he serve in the U.S.Army or the Army Air Corps? I think the AAC had a few ribbons that were different. I know that after 1947 the USAF had their own ribbons.

Hmmm, well then I’m out of ideas - checked the recommended medalsofamerica website and looked through their 21 pages of ribbons and didn’t see a match. I’ll have to go take a look at my father-in-law’s WWII ribbons with the off-chance he has a similar one. Here’s the pic of the medal (which didn’t attach to my last post). I’m wondering if maybe it was from another relative who served in WWI and got mixed in.

I agree. I assumed it was my father's but, may be my great-grandfather's. Although the 1 photo I have of him showing a ribbon on his jacket doesn't look like the 1 on wikipedia.

Not very likely. My father saw service in the South Pacific during WWII. He was only in the Navy for 3 years.
