Camera Rental Experience?

I will need to rent a camera while mine goes in for inspection/repair. It is a Pentax K5 which limits the companies from which I can rent. Has anyone had experience with CameraLensRental.com? On line ratings are 5 star. Any other suggestions. Thank you.

I have had delightfully perfect experience with lensrentals.com.
But, alas, I don't think they have Pentax (Canon, Nikon, Leica & Sony primarily).
Everything they do is first class and at very compeititive prices.

Have you considered renting something else just for the fun of experimenting and exploring?
If my car was in the shop, I'd never rent another one exactly the same.

Thanks, Festina. Yes, I considered renting another brand- "Cadillac", but I have 3 lenses and I am contracted for a week to photograph at a music camp (while doubling as nurse) and didn't think I had time to "learn" a new system. I did look at site you mentioned and you are right about brands. Apreciate your response.

I used CameraLensRental.com back in May of this year. I rented the Sigma 150-500mm lens and everything was just as they said it would be. I'll use them again. I also shoot Pentax. The K5 and K200D.

Thank you so much, Farmer. I was hoping they could get it back to me by 8/10 but I doubt that pleading will have any effect! Appreciate your response.

Yes, Paul it does. It was one of 2 places I found and before I went further wanted to check and see if others had used them and had a positive experience with them.

I buy....

I am an inveterate eBayer. When I want to try out a new camera, or need to have a backup I buy it.

Presuming we are talking here about a new, and highly popular model.

I find that I can sell a low count popular model, after keeping it for up to three months, and pay less than normal rental rates.

The $130 for 7 day rental rates I see here hardly give you enough time to become familiar with the operation if you are renting to try out a camera for possible purchase.

That also gives me the possibility to try out a new issue body and recover my funds if not suitable. For instance, my last such transaction was a Canon T2i with lens. I bought it new at Best Buy, used it for three months, and sold it for a loss of $100. That's well below a three month cost rate.

By the way, I purchased the T2i to see if I could get better images than I could shoot with my Olympus PEN E-PL1. I shoot mostly car shows. I took both cameras to about 5 car shows in the three months I had the T2i. I handily outshot the high Mp Canon with my 12 Mp Olympus Pen, so boxed up the T@i and sold it Buy It Now on eBay in one day, at $100 less than I paid for it.

Have done the same tactic a few times with both new Canon and Nikon.

I'm not sure if I could do that with a Pentax, however. Bit risky, but it sounds like you may need a backup camera anyway, if you are using these camera's professionally?

By The Way!!! Nice Smugmug.

Thanks for the "smugmug" comment. Thank you for looking. My husband does eBay a lot and have sold an old film camera that way. Sounds like you have a great system and something to consider for future. I have a back-up camera, but the one I had to send out is my "work horse" and I need it for the things it can do that the K20 cannot. I can't call myself a professional, but I do get photo jobs. I have a dual role for a week and I need my K5. It is what I know and have the lenses I need (which will fit my back up too). I am contracted to be camp photographer, put together slideshow which is then fit to soundtrack from music camp, and sold as well as put on camp website. Some photos become advertising for the next year and the slide show is also a recruitment tool. So, I really don' have time to learn a whole different camera. Thank you so much for your reply. Sorry to be late in responding, busy day.
