40mm 2.8 vs. 50mm 1.8

Does someone have this kind of lens 40mm 2.8 pancake and 50mm 1.8 (well specifically Canon lens)? I'm so curious, is it worth to buy this 40mm 2.8 pancake since I got the 50mm 1.8, whats the big difference, aside from being a pancake?

Thanks everyone!

I believe the BIG difference is that the "40mm pancake" lens from Canon will auto-focus while shooting video with a minimum of noise because of the stepper motor. Other lenses will auto-focus but not while shooting video...at least not advised.

I would read a few reviews before making that decision, you might also consider the 50mm f/2.8 macro...

My understanding is that if you will be shooting video and will be upgrading your camera body down the road then you really should take a good look at the 40mm but if that is not going to be a consideration then you might want to consider that the new focusing system is slower than a normal lens.

Your camera body has to support the video auto focus function, only the very newest body releases will support the autofocus, for example my 60D will not auto focus with the 40mm in video.

There are others on this site that can explain video technique to you much better than I can, I pretty much use my 60D for stills, I have it coz I got a really great deal on it used and wanted the video feature just in case. The new T4i (650D) has the processor that will auto focus the 40mm pancake but our 60D's will not... Also the new canon bridge that just came out that accepts interchangeable lenses will auto focus during video....

I am sure that you can find several articles on the web that will help you to learn videography or possibly even better you can find amazing how to videos on Youtube.
