I don't do a lot of HDR, but when I do it's with Photomatix Pro.

In the Mayberry photo, why is the sky through the trees different from the sky above the trees?

I'll be the odd ball out here ...

I love Franzis's HDR software. The full list price is pretty expensive but sign up for their mailing list and you'll find the occasional screaming deal ($200+ down to $40). Theirs is the most fully featured HDR software I've seen and I've stopped using Photomatix for this reason.

I also like this software BUT only if you're NOT using a high resolution display. On a 4K monitor the text is too small to read!!

I've started to experiment and play around with HDR post processing. I import my 3-5 images into LR and then use the LR HDR merge. Nothing exciting but some of the final images do look interesting.
I also have used the 'edit/merge command from LR to Photoshop and i see that PS gives me more opportunities to modify the final product.
I donwloaded the trial version of NIK HDR effex, but I guess raw file are not accepted by the program. Do I need to save them as JPEG or something else.
From LR my Raw files are merged both in LR and PS.
Also any other suggestions of HDR processing programs.
Thanks
I've started to experiment and play around with HD... (show quote)

I use "Photomatix 6", "Aurora HDR 2018" and "ON1PhotoRAW 2018.5" for my HDR work. All 3 are good.

I did no retouching of the sky...therefore my thought is: it was very stormy out and the sky was brighter due to thinner clouds in that area (thru the trees) at that time.

Looking at it a second time I can see some gradual change through the trees which I didn't see before. I guess Photomatix didn't "mess up" after all. It's a very nice picture.
