Certainly you can insure your property against damage, but read the fine print. Will your policy pay full replacement value and loss of use cost? Is there a deductible?

Maintenance is cheaper than insurance in most cases.

I appreciate all the above suggestions. When I lived in South Florida with central air I did not experience the problem but now I live in Panama without central air. I don't know if AC is a solution but I do know I just got a quote from a shop in the USA for $800 to cleanup my long lens and replace some elements!

Hey, bmike, fungus and mold are usually caused by standing water, or water soaked conditions.

What are water soaked conditions? I'm so happy to hear that humidity is not likely to cause mold and fungus!

Water soaked conditions generally mean where a roof leaks and the drywall get saturated with water. Or after a flood condition in an area has soaked a home/car and will take some time to dry out. I doubt you will ever experience either of these. But, we do have hurricanes . . . .

I was laughing at those whom predicted an overactive hurricane season.
