While in Oregon I saw this old abandoned paddle wheel sitting near a small dock on the Columbia River. Unfortunately I didn't take multiple exposures, so I had to do it Pseudo-HDR, using only one image, then made one over and one under exposed, then processed like a normal HDR. I hope you like it, I plan to enter it into a Photo Contest this Fall.
An amazing subject, nicely composed but I have to be honest and say that I don't think the HDR has done it justice. There is a strong halo around the wheel and a lot of noise in the shadows. I also think that the processing has tended to flatten the pic rather than bring out the wheel which after all is the star of the show. This is such a good subject and potentially a great pic that I think it is worth tweeking. Instead of doing the under/over exposure then combine, have you tried putting it straight into photomatix as a single image, I have found that this tends to generate less noise. I would be really interested to see the original pic because if it is slightly underexposed which i suspect (though of course I could be completely wrong) then that would explain the large amount of noise in the shadows. But it doesn't change the fact that I think the pic has the potential to be a winner, but I think the processing needs to be reworked.

I like it, but will the judges find those three + logs on the top distracting?
