Zenfolio is offering for $4 a month $48 billed annually to copyright protect and legally persue violations. Any thoughts on this?

I just joined Zenfolio a few weeks ago, do not remember this offer, but it sounds interesting, especially in the digital world we live.

That seems excessive, when you only have to register an image with the Library of Congress prior to bringing suit. Just posting an image on line is sufficient to be able to claim copyright.
Google has a tool that will search the web for your image to see if it is being posted on other sites.

If you are going to subscribe, confirm that you will have protection from international violators, what the fine print in the T&Cs are. The Devil is in the Details.

I don’t know about international but for $4 a month they will prosecute or at least attempt to prosecute. I am aware of the google tool but my understanding is you have to do each image individually. That could take forever it could be worth $4 a month in that perspective.

With tineye you have to do all the leg work yourself correct? Upload the photos of you find someone using it contact them and try to enforce your copyright. Same with google? Zenfolio it seems will do all that.

If you file a copyright with the US Copyright Office, if I read correctly, you can copyright up to 750 images in one batch for whatever the fee is. There would be a lot of work involved to do that as you have to describe & name each photo, but you would have absolute copyright with much more stringent enforcement possibilities. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act has some serious teeth.

But I think that is the point Zenfolio would do it all. Even though the US copyright office would enforce it you would still need a lawyer to chase it. It says Zenfolio s lawyers would represent you.

I was just pointing out that having a filed copyright puts some serious teeth in the arsenal of whoever files the violation. It would give Zenfolio lawyers a lot more leverage, or whoever you have chasing down the purloined image.
