Indeed it does not. But higher resolution is something marketing people can use to competitive advantage to sell new cameras to the masses.

Increased resolution has nothing to do with taking better pictures. Increasing skill is the key to that. Nor does higher resolution necessarily increase technical image quality (S/N ratio, dynamic range, etc).

Photography is first and foremost about Optics. The canvas, (film digltal) and the camera body, are secondary to optics.

"you have a relationship with the camera body but you marry the lens".

Read my post on page one carefully. I didn't say that increasing resolution results in better pictures. Eliminating the anti-aliasing filter does.

I completely agree that good optics are more important than a camera body --it tickles me when a number of people go right out and buy a very expensive camera body like the D850, which is probably overkill for most people--who really needs all that resolution, and all the bells and whistles?? I sure don't and with much simpler, less costly gear I have produced images that have been shown in museum exhibits, etc.---but i guess that's what keeps camera makers in business; as soon as they come out with the latest, most advanced camera body, some people think they can't live without it --to me, the Nikon D750 is a technological marvel, and does everything I need from it and theh some!!

Why didn't you save money and get a D700? I'm sure there are those who produce wonderful photos with one.

Folks seem to think that they know what technical level of camera is good for everyone, just because they know what is good for them. Kind of a silly attitude. IMHO

Just off the press today (2018-7-28) Nikon announced the mirrorless development AND continued development if D-SLR cameras.

So a newer D750 may be coming in the future but my guess is the development teams are busy with the new mirrorless line and D-SLR updates will have to wait.

Just a guess, there are different teams for different products. I do believe that as time goes on more and more will be shifted to the mirrorless products.

There can be multiple development teams working on different products, but there are a finite number of people available, and there is a very important race to market in process. So it’s possible they will direct all the development resources toward that immediate goal. I’m just guessing, but that is what I would do if I was Canikon.

I was surprised in the statement that D-SLR development would continue. I wonder if that is marketing speak for “D-SLR products sales will continue”. But then again they are still selling 2 SLR models, good for Nikon, and one has been updated several times.

Time will tell.

My Df is more than 4 years old. When will the replacement be?

Shortly after hell freezes over? Well at least they are still sellling it. One can hope that Nikon will update their existing lines of high end D-SLRs with backside sensors. They haven’t said anything about that.

I can’t imagine Nikon will keep manufacturing all the D-SLRs they are currently offering. It remains to be seen what cameras survive and which ones are discontinued. Sales and profits will dictate that outcome.

Either way Nikon hit one out of the park with the D750. It’s a solid reliable good quality product. I’m very happy with mine and I don’t feel a need to buy an updated model, unless they update the sensor as noted above. And... my go-to everyday walk around carry everywhere I go camera these days is an OM-D, EM-5 Mii. ;)

I have had the DF for 5 years now and kept up hoping it would become a DF2. But now I would love to see a DF mirrorless

If they did the an it came with 2 SD cards I'd buy one!

In the meantime take a look at Olympus' OM-D line. Very retro styling.

Styling is great, construction is superior, lenses are of the highest quality, menu is like a life sentence to a Turkish prison. I strongly suggest you do what I didn't, rent one before buying.

But don't get rid of the Nikon. I still use my D3 when I want the advantages of the larger pixels.

Boy that’s true! I spent some time learning it and setting my preferences! But once you get it set it’s great. Also you can save/restore settings to/from to a flash drive so you only have to do it once.

The D750 is a fine camera with an equally fine reputation. (For the nay sayers, yes it had some birth pains but they have been resolved.) A replacement might have some new bells, some new whistles, but it won't take any better pictures. If you need a new camera, do you need it now? if so why wait. Your end product won't be any better.

I think it will be much more than bells and whistles, for starters they aren't using aa filters on the new sensors, maybe 36mp, maybe the xpeed 5, improved focus tracking. Maybe I'm just getting my hopes up because I waiting for it myself.
