If you think a stylus (like a ball point pen) would be easier to control, look at a stylus and tablet arrangement, such as Wacom or others. They do offer greater control (for some) over a mouse.

I have used a Wacom Bamboo and found it very much improved over a mouse.

However, I learned how to use my camera to get the best results on my images, and I no longer do Post Processing... Thank God!

Buy a Wacom tablet. It not possible to do the things with a mouse that are easy with the tablet. I could not do what I do without it.

I have found that the "bamboo" stylus works well also. My husband gave it to me for a birthday gift last year and I love it!

Could you please list what the Tablet can do better than a mouse. I can imagine tracing around an outline would be one advantage. Are there others? I want to decide if the purchase of one is justified.

depends on what model but you cant go wrong with the INTUOS 4. you can assign different functions to a wheel it has on the tab itself ie- for altering brush size etc. If you do a serious amount of editing then a pen/tab is a must have though, as always, opinions differ. go to the Wacom web site and then google reviews, hope this helps.

To answer your specific question, I rest my right forearm on a writing surface and use a mini bean bag under my wrist for more precise control. Since I'm right handed, I usually work from right to left. I especially like a wireless optical mouse which frees me from a mousepad that I have always hated. Works for me. Admittedly a tablet has controls that don't exist on a mouse such as pressure sensitivity but that hasn't worked it's way upward on my list of must haves yet

I find that by zooming in making the image much larger causing the relative movement of the cusor to be smaller makes my lack of a rock-steady hand not so telling

I had the same issue and am not yet ready for a Wacom tablet. I bought an Allsop mouse pad that has a velour texture. The mouse glides over it but the friction makes the movements more precise. I purchased it locally for about $10 - comes in different sizes - mine is 7.5" x 10.75". I highly recommend it until you are ready for a Wacom. Here it is:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3398519&CatId=45

Wacom tablet. Once you get used to it - and it doesn't take long - you'll wonder why you waited so long. Even a used one would be an improvement - if you can find one.

Your computer also allows you to dumb-down the movement of your mouse to react slower if you dig around in the operating system.

Would you like to update that answer for Windows 7?

For windows 7 you click on the start button, go to control panel, click on devices, then right click on the mouse, then just go thru the tabs and adjust you mouse however you want.
