This has been on my mind since it "cropped up" in a post last week. On UHH we openly share so much detailed information to try to help others improve their photography. BUT, if we stumble upon a fantastic location where we take "killer shots" that we then post in the Photo Gallery, how many here would balk at/refuse to share the info to find that location with other shooters? If "yes", then why is that?

Nope. I don't mind sharing at all.

Seeing how another photographer views a subject is a big part of the fun of photography for me.

I mean that Adams dude was quite open about that "Half Dome" place, wasn't he?

I would have no problem sharing locations either. I love to see how other people frame their shots and what they see that I don’t!
I even enjoy walking around with others who are better than me and spend the day shooting together!
I personally wouldn’t worry about it, and instead would encourage it!

I've no problem disclosing a public place, but if I was granted access to a private place, like the trolley graveyard or an abandoned building, I would respect the owner and not disclose that location.

Fair point. I also might be a little hesitant if I were "urban exploring" in an area that technically constituted trespassing. Or in an area where there was, say, a nesting rare bird. or other endangered wildlife.

Probably because he knew that most people could not equal the composition, darkroom skill and pure patience that would be required to replicate his images. He was the master

But he was also a master teacher - totally open and generous with his techniques, equipment, and philosophy.

That comes under the heading...why do most people refuse to show where they are from in their avatar? As far as not giving the location of their shots?...that's just being juvenile and selfish.

Good point. I've wondered about that.

It is. I've seen pictures of it.
(I believe it's on private property.)

Responses like this are simple reasons that make that art of photography perfect for sharing! We in general are passionate about our chosen subjects and I personally get excited for other photogs when they get amazing opportunities or shots. I love the shared experience.

'Where' the shot was taken is the only thing that really interests me. I would prefer to create my own interpretation of the subject than to try to replicate somebody else's.
