The contest images had to be shot at the Detroit zoo on July 14 and 15, 2018. Light Photoshopping allowed: exposure, sharpening, color correction only.

I have to pick the best 5 of these (in other words, eliminate one). I'm looking for your consensus. Thanks.

Emperor Butterfly
Gorilla
Tiger
Toddler
White Flamingos
Zebras

Lovely images. I would eliminate Emperor Butterfly because the item the butterfly is on is not part of nature. Looks like fabric.
Good Luck. The Toddler image is a pure winner.

The butterfly is in my opinion the least appealing. Nice set.

Good photos. Good luck in the contest. I esp. like the butterfly and gorilla.

I grew up in Pontiac, and always enjoyed the Detroit Zoo. Some attractions are no longer there, such as the performing monkeys. That kind of thing is out of vogue. I'm not sure if the elephants perform anymore or not. When I was young, we had access to the large tortoises which lived on open green medians, but carvings into their backs stopped that. One of the great things about the DZ is the large areas that the animals are able to live in. The Zoo is 1/2 mile by a mile. Not many zoos are that large. It takes a train to get you from the front to the back or vice versa.

Amazing photos, all. If forced to pick, I would eliminate the flamingo. For a winner it would be the gorilla.

I find the Zebras rather confusing. The others all have good merits.

I would eliminate either the butterfly or the gorilla. The butterfly because the article it has landed on does not look natural. The gorilla because it looks over processed, I mean the black looks too hot to be natural and the out of focus plants in the foreground grab too much atention as they are bright against the black.

These are all top notch images. I think people would relate looking at that little boy looking through the glass at the animal.

IMHO the boy and the lemur advertise a zoo better than any of the others.
