I continue to be amazed at how many members of this forum spend thousands of dollars on their equipment (as do I) but want free software to process their photos. They cannot stand to spend $9.99/mo for PS, Bridge and Lightroom because they are sure it's going to double tomorrow.
And they are probably right - I am sure there is a conspiracy out there somewhere. Also the number of people still using Windows 7 (which I agree was a good version) but I have Windows 10 and have kept it updated and have never had a single problem - Ever!

Hopefully, these issues don't keep you awake at night. I continue to be amazed at the number of people on UHH who prefer participating in negative and meaningless topics instead of sharing knowledge and inspiration.

And the speculators - This week Olympus is doomed, next week Nikon, then Pentax...

In my humble opinion; equipment is stuff, its tangible, you can pick it up and place it in a bag or box, and it has resale value. Software is just that; its not a tangible object like a lens, and it has no resale value.

Most of the participants on the forum grew up in an age where there was no such thing as software, at least not for the general population, so I believe somewhere deep down in their brains they just can't wrap their heads around the notion that it could possibly have value. They will not tell you this, perhaps they don't realize it on a conscious level, but like most things in life one's value system is controlled by things we may not aware of and don't fully comprehend.

The latest generation of adults on the other hand do not have the same hankering for stuff, hardware, solid objects, if you will.

Just my 2 cents. I had parents and grandparents with the same notions concerning different things.

And that is exactly my point, Linda. No - it doesn't keep me awake at night, but when I get up in the morning and see several posts asking what free things they can get to make their pictures look better, I do wonder where our priorities are. I am quite comfortable spending the money for the best processing program ever.

I continue to be amazed at how many people are willing to pay $120 a year---$600 every 5 years---for editing programs that are much more powerful than most photographers really need when there are many excellent programs that cost just a small fraction of that and cover the needs of most non-professional photographers.

And you also see as many if not more asking for help with LR, and/or CC, and/or PS.

And my point is why focus on complaining about someone else's behavior when you could be posting topics that have value to newbies (and the rest of us)?

I know I should pay for software but I don't really want to pay for every month. I much rather pay a one time payment than paying monthly as I don't use the software every month.
As far as getting updated. New software needs new hardware and if the old software/hardware still work for me there is no reason to update. I still run Windows XP for some of my personal use like using old scanners. At work I maintain PC running DOS and Windows 95. It's not easy but something some people like me have to do.

When I bought (or more correctly licensed photoshop) - it cost a lot more than that. Now you get free updates. There is not another program out there that will give you what Photoshop CC gives you. And, yes, I have used NIK, ON1 and many others. There is no comparison. What you get for free is worth exactly that.

I use Nikon View NX-2 most of the time. I only use Photoshop CC once in a while and yes I do have to pay the monthly fee which I don't really like.

That was my point. No other program gives as much, but how many people really need all that Photoshop CC gives and are paying for something they don't need and rarely, if ever, use?

When I buy my camera it's mine. When I pay for software it's not mine regardless it a one time license or monthly.
